SBTPG 'Funded' Status - What Does This Actually Mean?

Quick question for anyone who's dealt with SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) before. I just checked my account and it shows 'funded' status, but I'm not seeing anything in my bank account yet. I've been through this rodeo before with other tax processors and know we need to stay on top of these companies. Last year, I had to call three times to get my money released properly. Does 'funded' mean they've already sent the money to my bank, or are they still holding onto it? I refuse to let them sit on my refund for days while they collect interest on it - that's MY money they're holding.

According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 1-2023), when SBTPG marks a refund as 'funded,' it indicates the funds have been received from the Treasury Department and are being processed for disbursement. Per their standard operating procedures, SBTPG typically releases funds within 1-2 business days after the 'funded' status appears. This is consistent with Section 6.1(c) of their Terms of Service which states that processing time may vary based on your financial institution's policies.

So if I'm understanding correctly, 'funded' means they've received it from the IRS but haven't necessarily sent it to my bank yet? I had a similar status last year and it took about 24 hours after seeing 'funded' before the money hit my account.

This is really helpful information! Isn't it interesting how they use these vague terms that sound like the process is complete when it's actually still in progress? Makes much more sense now why there's always that gap between seeing 'funded' and actually getting my money.

Did you get your refund through a tax preparer that took fees out of your refund? When I used H&R Block last year, their SBTPG status showed 'funded' for almost 3 days before I got my money. But when my sister used TurboTax this year, she got her money the same day it showed 'funded'. I wonder if different preparers have different timelines with SBTPG?

Omg this is so true! My hubby and I filed separately (long story lol) and he used TT while I used some local place. His refund came thru SBTPG in like 24hrs after 'funded' but mine took 3 days! Same bank account too. Def seems like diff preparers = diff timelines.

Yes, it means they received the money. They're processing it now. Your bank will get it soon. Usually takes 24-48 hours. They deduct any fees first. Then transfer the rest. Watch your account tomorrow. Should be there by then.

To add to this explanation, SBTPG follows a specific process when they mark an account as 'funded': 1. They receive the full tax refund from the IRS 2. They subtract any authorized fees (tax prep fees, add-on services) 3. They process the remaining amount for transfer to your bank 4. They initiate an ACH transfer to your designated account In my experience working with financial processing, ACH transfers typically take 1-2 business days to complete, even after being initiated. This explains the delay between the 'funded' status and the deposit appearing in your account.

This aligns perfectly with SBTPG's Electronic Funds Transfer protocols. Their system utilizes the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network which operates on a batch processing schedule. When a transaction is marked as 'funded,' it has been queued in their next processing batch but may not initiate until their next scheduled transmission window. Most financial institutions process these batches three times daily, but some smaller banks only process once per day, typically overnight. Impressive explanation of a complex system!

I was in exactly the same situation on March 18th this year! SBTPG showed 'funded' but nothing in my account. After waiting 2 days with no movement, I tried calling SBTPG directly but couldn't get through their phone system. Eventually used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to reach the IRS, who confirmed they had sent the money to SBTPG days earlier. Armed with that info, I called SBTPG again and they suddenly 'found' my payment and released it that day. Sometimes you need to be persistent to get what's rightfully yours.

Has anyone had issues with SBTPG holding funds longer than the 'funded' status suggests? I'm a bit worried because I need this money for bills due next week, and I'm not sure if I should start making alternative arrangements or if the money will definitely arrive in time...

OMG YES!! Last year I was FREAKING OUT because my status showed 'funded' for 4 DAYS!!! I had rent due and was panicking!! Called them twice and got the runaround about "processing time" until I finally lost it on the third call and suddenly they could "expedite" it. Magically appeared in my account 3 hours later. šŸ™„ Don't let them tell you they can't speed it up - they absolutely can!!

According to the SBTPG FAQ page (https://sbtpg.com/taxpayer-support/), 'funded' status means they've received your refund from the IRS and are processing it for disbursement to your bank account. I've been tracking this for the past three tax seasons, and typically see the money in my account within 24-36 hours after the status changes to 'funded.' You can also check their online tracker which sometimes gives more detailed information than what tax preparers show.

Let me clear this up once and for all. SBTPG 'funded' means they have received your money from the IRS, subtracted their fees, and are preparing to send the remainder to your bank. Based on data from over 200 posts in this community over the past 3 tax seasons, the average wait time from 'funded' to deposit is exactly 1.7 business days. The longest reported wait was 5 business days, and the shortest was same-day. About 68% of people see their money within 48 hours of the 'funded' status appearing. If it goes beyond 3 business days, that's when you should start making calls.
