How quickly does SBTPG update to funded after transcript update?
I'm just wondering... how soon after IRS transcripts update will Santa Barbara Tax Products Group update to funded? I'm being extra careful this year because TurboTax wouldn't approve me for a refund advance. They said I owed something, but I've checked and double-checked that there's nothing on the offset line for either me or my husband. I'm trying to track exactly when SBTPG receives the funds so I know when to expect my refund. I do gig work so this refund timing matters a lot for my budget planning. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious here.

I went through this exact situation last month. In my experience, SBTPG usually updates within 24-48 hours after your transcript shows the refund is issued. My transcript updated on a Wednesday showing the 846 code, and SBTPG showed funded by Friday morning. Then it took another day for the money to hit my account. Just remember they take their fees out before sending your refund - I was surprised by how much they took for processing!

OMG this is so helpful! Did you have any issues with your refund amount being different than expected? I'm worried something's wrong with my return since TurboTax flagged it!

Just to clarify for others reading this thread - the 846 code is the "refund issued" code on your transcript. That's the key thing to look for before expecting SBTPG to update. Sometimes people get confused looking at other codes like 570/971 which don't necessarily mean your refund is on the way yet.

I've been through this process several times over the years. What I've learned is that you can also check the IRS Where's My Refund tool simultaneously. In previous tax seasons, I noticed that WMR would update to "Refund Sent" right around the same time SBTPG would update to funded. Last year, my WMR updated on April 2nd, and SBTPG showed funded later that same day. The money was in my account by April 4th. The TurboTax advance rejection might be unrelated to any actual issues - sometimes their system is just overly cautious.

Have you tried calling the IRS to verify there's no offset or issue with your return? This could explain why TurboTax flagged a potential problem. I was in a similar situation last year with an unexplained rejection for an advance. I spent days trying to reach someone at the IRS with no luck until I used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com). They got me through to an actual IRS agent in about 20 minutes who confirmed there was a small offset from a state tax debt I wasn't aware of. Is it possible there's a similar situation affecting your advance approval?

I think I might be able to help with this! I had what seems like a similar situation last month. TurboTax denied my advance but there was nothing showing on my offset line either. Turns out, it was because I had claimed a certain credit that automatically triggered additional verification. The IRS processed everything normally, and SBTPG updated about a day after my transcript showed the refund was issued. It was actually pretty quick once it started moving! I was honestly surprised by how complicated the whole process is behind the scenes.

Same here. No advance. No offset. Transcript updated Feb 28. SBTPG funded Feb 29. Money in account March 1. Check credit claims. That was my issue.

This matches what I've seen professionally: • SBTPG typically updates 24-48 hours after transcript 846 code appears • Advance rejections often happen with: • Certain tax credits claimed • Previous year filing issues • Identity verification flags • Name/SSN mismatches I'm a bit concerned that you can't see what's causing the rejection though. Might indicate something deeper.

I had this exact problem on January 29th this year. Instead of obsessively checking SBTPG, I created an account directly with the IRS to view my transcripts. My refund was actually offset for an old student loan I thought was deferred, but it didn't show up on the offset line initially. The TurboTax system somehow detected this before it showed up officially. I would recommend checking your transcripts directly with the IRS every 24 hours rather than relying on SBTPG. I'm skeptical of these tax prep services claiming nothing is wrong when clearly their system flagged something.

SBTPG usually updates super fast IMO. Most ppl in the tax forums report seeing updates within 24hrs of transcript 846 code appearing. But here's the thing - TT rejecting you for an advance is def a red flag. Even if nothing shows on offset line, could be other issues like ID verify, review hold, or credit eligibility probs. The system knows stuff before it shows up on your transcript sometimes. FWIW, check cycle code on transcript when it updates - if it ends in 05, that's a weekly update cycle and might take a bit longer for everything to process thru SBTPG.

Don't bother with SBTPG's website. It's notoriously unreliable. Call them directly at their customer service line instead. Their website can lag behind by days, but the phone reps can see if they've received the funds in real-time. I did this last year and found out my refund was already processing even though the website showed nothing. TurboTax's advance rejection is a separate issue - their algorithm is extremely conservative this year due to increased fraud concerns. Focus on tracking the actual refund through IRS sources instead of relying on TurboTax or SBTPG's systems.
