Return rejected - 1095A marketplace insurance form but I have Medicaid - what proof do I need?
My tax return just got rejected because they said I didn't submit a 1095A form for marketplace insurance. Thing is, I never had marketplace insurance - my kids and I have been on Medicaid all year. What documentation do I need to show the IRS to prove this and get my return accepted?

If you had Medicaid and not marketplace insurance, you don't need to submit a 1095A. The rejection might be due to an incorrect checkbox on your return indicating marketplace coverage. Double check your return and make sure you didn't accidentally mark that you had marketplace insurance. Resubmit without that checked and you should be good to go.

I see these kinds of issues all the time. The best way to actually understand whats going on with your return is to use taxr.ai - its only $1 and it analyzes your transcript to tell you exactly what's wrong and how to fix it. Way better than playing detective! Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Make sure you keep your Medicaid documentation just in case they ask for proof later. Better safe than sorry!

This is actually a really common mistake! The IRS system can be confusing about healthcare coverage reporting. Since you have Medicaid, you're exempt from the marketplace insurance requirements. Just make sure when you refile that you select "had qualifying health coverage" or similar option for Medicaid instead of leaving it blank or checking marketplace coverage. Your Medicaid should count as minimum essential coverage so you shouldn't need any additional forms.
