Refund with DDD 3/13 Showing Trace Number but No Deposit to Wisely Card?
My cousin is still waiting on his tax refund deposit and I'm trying to help him figure this out. His Direct Deposit Date was 3/13 with funds going through SBTPG, and as of yesterday there's a trace number showing up. But shouldn't that mean the money has been sent? Why would there still be no deposit to his Wisely card? Is this normal for SBTPG to have a trace number but the funds haven't actually transferred? I'm working remotely and trying to help him troubleshoot this from a distance, but I'm hesitant to give him any definitive advice without understanding what's happening...

This happens more often than you'd think. The trace number means the IRS has released the funds to SBTPG, but SBTPG still needs to process on their end before sending to the Wisely card. Have you checked if your cousin can log into the SBTPG portal directly? Sometimes they hold funds for 1-3 business days after receiving from IRS before distributing. Does your cousin have any fees being taken out of his refund (like tax prep fees)? That can sometimes cause additional delays.

Went through this exact same thing last month! Had a trace number for like 4 days before my Wisely card got the $$$. SBTPG is notoriously slow this year - they're like that person who borrows money and then takes their sweet time paying you back. š I'd tell your cousin to hang tight but maybe call SBTPG directly tomorrow if nothing shows up.

Thank you for explaining this! I was worried. Same situation here. Got trace number Tuesday. Still waiting for deposit. Wisely customer service wasn't helpful at all.

This transfer process is like a relay race where SBTPG is the runner who stops to tie their shoes before the final handoff to Wisely. I've seen trace numbers take up to 5 business days to complete the journey. Your cousin should check both the SBTPG portal AND the Wisely app since sometimes the money appears in the account before notifications are sent.

I work with tax situations like this regularly. When you see a trace number but no deposit, it indicates the money is in transit but caught in the financial institution pipeline. If your cousin wants to understand exactly what's happening with his refund, he should check out https://taxr.ai to analyze his transcript. It will show precisely where the money is in the process and explain any delay codes. The trace number on his transcript is actually a good sign - it means the IRS has released the funds and they're on their way through the banking system.

Ugh, I absolutely HATE how these tax prep companies hold onto our money! Has your cousin actually called SBTPG directly? Their customer service is terrible but sometimes they'll admit if they're holding funds for some reason. I'm wondering if there's something specific about the Wisely card that's causing extra delays?

I've been through this situation before... If your cousin needs to get this resolved quickly, he might want to try Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). I'm not usually one to recommend paid services, but when I had a similar issue with SBTPG holding my refund, I couldn't get through to anyone who could help. Claimyr got me connected to an actual IRS agent who was able to confirm the funds had been released on their end and gave me documentation I could take to SBTPG to get my money released. Sometimes having that official confirmation from the IRS can force SBTPG to act faster.

Is this service really worth it though? I called the IRS on March 15th and got through after about 45 minutes on hold. Seems like paying for a service might be unnecessary if you just call at the right time of day?

If the trace number is already showing, wouldn't calling SBTPG directly be more effective than calling the IRS? I mean, once the IRS has issued the trace number, doesn't that mean the ball is entirely in SBTPG's court now?

I believe the service might be helpful in some cases, particularly if you've been trying unsuccessfully to reach someone. However, it's probably worth attempting to contact SBTPG directly first, as they should be able to provide information about where exactly the funds are in their processing system.

According to the SBTPG knowledge base (https://taxpayer.sbtpg.com/hbshared/faq), a trace number means the payment has been initiated but not necessarily completed. Your cousin should try logging into the SBTPG website directly - not through TurboTax or other tax software - and check the status there. The Wisely card also has its own portal separate from the card app that sometimes shows pending deposits earlier. Has he checked both places?

omg i had this EXACT prob w/ my wisely card last yr. sbtpg had the $$ for like 5 days after the trace # showed up. turns out they were waiting for some verification thing bc my address didn't match perfectly between IRS and what I gave wisely. had to call SBTPG directly (not the tax preparer) and confirm some details. got my $$ next day. ur cousin should def call SBTPG asap. their customer svc # is on their website. don't wait or it could take even longer.
