PSA: State vs Federal Tax Returns - They're Completely Separate Systems!
Stop calling the IRS about your state taxes and vice versa! They are completely separate systems and neither one knows anything about the other. The IRS handles federal taxes only, and your state's Department of Revenue handles state taxes. They don't share information about your refund status.

This is absolutely correct. I work in tax preparation and this is one of the most common misconceptions we see. While your state return might use information from your federal return, they are processed by completely different agencies. Each has their own processing times, requirements, and customer service departments.

Yall should know that even tho theyre separate, your state might still need info from your federal return to process your state refund. Its just that the IRS cant tell u the status of your state refund and vice versa
