PATH Act Hold - Transcript Updated Today But No 846 Code - When Will WMR Update?
I'm on PATH hold (claimed EITC) and I'm soooo excited to see my transcript finally updated today! š Everything is there EXCEPT the 846 code. I've been through this before with my business returns, but I'm still anxious about timing. So if the PATH Act hold lifts next week, do the transcripts typically update on Friday? And if they do update, when would that reflect on Where's My Refund? I want to make sure I'm tracking this correctly - last year I had some unexpected delays that messed up my cash flow projections.

Based on current IRS processing patterns, you're likely to see your 846 code appear next Friday after the PATH Act hold lifts on February 15th. Have you checked what cycle code is showing on your transcript? That can give you a more precise idea of your update schedule. Generally, if you're on a weekly cycle (ending in 05), your transcript would update overnight Thursday into Friday, and WMR typically updates 24-48 hours after that.

This explanation is like getting a map when you're lost in the woods! I've been watching my transcript like a hawk and couldn't figure out the pattern. So it's like the transcript is the behind-the-scenes view while WMR is the public-facing announcement that comes later.

I just checked my transcript on February 7th and have a similar situation. Does this mean I should specifically look for updates on February 16th for the transcript and then February 17-18th for WMR?

Thx for the cycle code info! My transcript updated last Thurs night (showed Fri morning) and WMR updated Sat morning. Exactly like you described. Def check that cycle code - mine was 20240805 which meant weekly updates.

Been there. Got all codes but 846 last year. Transcript updated Friday morning. WMR updated Saturday. Money hit my account Tuesday. Path Act is predictable now. System works better than before. Just need patience.

In my experience, which is fairly extensive with PATH Act holds, the transcripts generally update overnight on Thursday into Friday for most weekly cycle filers. The Where's My Refund tool might take an additional 24-72 hours to reflect these changes, depending on various factors including IRS system load. I would suggest possibly checking your transcript early Friday morning and then perhaps waiting until Sunday or Monday for WMR to catch up.

I had this happen last year too. Do you remember if there was any difference in timing for direct deposit versus check? I switched to direct deposit this year hoping it would be faster.

After dealing with PATH holds for 3 consecutive years, I finally discovered a better way to get definitive answers about my refund status. When I needed to confirm my exact DDD after transcript updates, I used Claimyr.com to connect with an actual IRS agent without the endless busy signals and disconnects. The agent verified my 846 code was scheduled for processing even before WMR updated. Saved me days of anxiety checking WMR every hour! Here's their link: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

I've seen this scenario play out many times in my own returns. Last year, my transcript updated with everything except the 846 code, and I was feeling pretty confident. Then suddenly, I got a CP12 notice saying they were adjusting my return! My refund was delayed another 3 weeks while they sorted it out. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but just be aware that seeing all codes except 846 doesn't always mean it's smooth sailing from here.

That's concerning! Were there any warning signs before you got the CP12? ā¢ Any unusual codes on your transcript? ā¢ Any math errors you might have made? ā¢ Did you claim any credits that might have triggered extra scrutiny?

OMG thank you for sharing this! I'm waiting on exactly $6,843 and need it for a down payment due on March 1st. I'm going to check for those other codes right now!

Do you think... maybe I should call the IRS directly if my transcript doesn't update by next Friday? I'm a bit nervous about unexpected delays since I'm counting on this money for some bills.

Have you tried the IRS2Go app instead of the website? Sometimes it updates faster than the browser version of WMR. š I've noticed the app sometimes shows updates a few hours before the website does. Not always, but worth having both options during the PATH waiting game. The transcript is still your most reliable source though - it's like having the answer key while WMR is still taking the test!

Last year my transcript updated on Friday 2/17 with code 846 and DDD of 2/22. WMR didn't update until Sunday 2/19. Isn't it strange how the official tool for checking refunds is always the last to know? My bank (Capital One) actually posted the deposit a day early on 2/21. Have you checked if your bank processes IRS deposits early? Some do, some don't.
