My transcript 'As Of' date suddenly changed from May 15 to May 29 - what does this mean?
I was checking my transcript online today and noticed the "As Of" date has changed from May 15 to May 29th. This literally happened within the last few hours since I checked this morning. Does anyone know what this means? Is this good or bad news? I filed back in February and have been waiting on my refund for nearly 3 months now. Getting nervous since I was counting on that money for some bills.

The "As Of" date on your transcript typically indicates when the IRS system will update your account information. When it changes, it usually means the IRS is actively working on your return or making adjustments. This could be good news - often means they're preparing to issue your refund. However, it could also just be a routine system update. Have you checked if there are any other code changes on your transcript? Look for codes like 570 (additional account action pending), 571 (resolved account action), or 846 (refund issued). Those will tell you much more about what's actually happening with your return than just the As Of date changing.

•Thank you for this explanation! I'm not seeing any new codes yet, just the date change. I'll keep checking daily to see if anything new pops up.

•This is exactly right. My As Of date changed 3 times during processing last year and each time it was followed by movement on my refund within 1-2 weeks.

•Does the as of date ALWAYS mean something? Mine changed then changed back like 4 times, felt like I was on a roller coaster of emotions 😭

•Unfortunately not always. Sometimes it's just system maintenance. But combined with new codes, it's usually significant.

I was in the exact same situation last month and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what all these transcript codes and changes meant. Someone here recommended using taxr.ai and it was a total game changer. The tool analyzed my transcript, explained all the codes and dates in plain English, and even predicted when I'd get my refund (which turned out to be accurate!). Saved me from having to play detective with my own tax transcript. Here's the link if you want to check it out: https://taxr.ai

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does way more than just reading it! You upload your transcript and it breaks down every single code, explains what's happening with your return in normal human language, and gives you a timeline of what to expect next. It even caught a small issue that could have delayed my refund that I would have missed completely. Honestly it's been the best tool I've found during this whole tax nightmare.

•I was super skeptical too, but yes it actually works! After weeks of stressing and getting nowhere with the IRS, it gave me real answers in like 2 minutes. Totally worth checking out if you're stuck in IRS limbo like I was.

After waiting for weeks and getting that same date change on my transcript, I finally got through to a real person at the IRS using this phone service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me a callback from an actual IRS agent within a couple hours when I'd been trying to get through for weeks. The agent confirmed they were processing my return and explained the date change was actually good news in my case. Best money I ever spent to end the anxiety of not knowing what was happening with my refund.

•100% real. I was calling for weeks too and could never get past the automated system. Claimyr got me a callback same day. The IRS agent actually laughed when I told her how long I'd been trying to reach someone.

•Not a scam at all. It basically navigates the IRS phone system for you and holds your place in line. When it reaches an agent, it calls you and connects you. Took me from 0% success rate to talking with an actual human who could help. After weeks of stress, finally getting answers made it worth every penny.

Your as of date changing means the system is updating. I know it feels like something big, but honestly it happens all the time and doesn't mean much by itself. Mine changed 5 times during my 2023 return process. You need to look at the actual codes on your transcript to know what's really happening.

I've worked with taxes for 11 years and can tell you the "As Of" date change by itself doesn't always mean anything significant. However, a 2-week push forward (like yours from May 15 to May 29) often indicates they're in the process of reviewing your return. Watch for codes like 570/571 (hold/release) or 846 (refund issued) to appear - those are the real indicators. Also, February filing with no refund yet is unfortunately common this year. They're massively backlogged. If nothing changes in the next 2 weeks, you might want to call them directly or use the Taxpayer Advocate Service.

This happens to me every single year and drives me crazy. The as of date is just one of many cryptic messages the IRS sends us peasants. I've learned to ignore it and just wait for a deposit to hit my account. Calling the IRS is almost impossible unless you have 4-5 hours to waste on hold.

The as of date on my transcript changed 3 times during my refund process this year. First it pushed out 2 weeks, then 2 more weeks, then finally it went back to the original date and that's when my refund was processed. I got my DD exactly 8 days after the last date change. Hang in there!

•That's encouraging! I hope mine follows a similar pattern. Did you have any codes change along with those date changes?

Rami Samuels
•Yep, I had a 570 with the first date change, then a 571 with the second, and 846 with the final one. The codes are really the key info, the dates just show when they're working on it.

I spent weeks trying to decode my transcript before I finally used taxr.ai - it explained everything so clearly! Turns out my as of date changing was actually good news in my case. The site showed me exactly what was happening with my return and when to expect my refund. Would've saved myself so much stress if I'd found it earlier! https://taxr.ai

This actually happened to me literally yesterday! My as of date moved from April 29 to May 13, and today I woke up to find a deposit in my account! I never even saw an 846 code show up on my transcript before the money arrived. So sometimes these changes DO mean something good is about to happen. Sending positive vibes your way OP!

Every year the same nonsense from the IRS. They expect us to file perfectly and on time, but they can take months to process and provide zero clear communication. And if WE make a mistake, we get penalties and interest, but when THEY take forever, we just have to deal with it.

The "As Of" date is the most confusing thing ever. Mine's changed like 5 times in the past month alone. What helped me was using taxr.ai to actually understand what was happening. It analyzed my transcript and explained everything in plain English. Found out my return was on hold for review but nothing to worry about. Got my refund a week later!

I've been dealing with IRS transcript changes for years and here's what I've learned: the "As Of" date changing usually means they're actively working on your account, which is actually a good sign! A 2-week jump like yours (May 15 to May 29) often indicates they're processing or reviewing something. The key thing to watch for is if any new transaction codes appear alongside the date change. Codes like 570 (additional account action pending), 571 (additional account action completed), or the golden 846 (refund issued) are what really matter. The date change by itself is just the system updating. Since you filed in February and it's been 3 months, you're definitely in the normal (though frustrating) timeframe for this year's processing delays. Keep checking your transcript every few days for new codes, and if nothing changes in the next 2 weeks, consider calling the Taxpayer Advocate Service for help. Hang in there - most people do eventually get their refunds!

I went through the exact same thing last year! My "As Of" date changed from March 8 to March 22, and I was convinced something was wrong. Turns out it was actually the IRS getting ready to process my refund - I got it exactly 5 days after the date change. The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially when you're counting on that money. I was refreshing my transcript like every few hours (definitely not healthy lol). What helped me stay sane was remembering that the IRS is just massively backlogged this year. February filers are still well within the normal processing window, even though it feels like forever. Keep an eye out for any new codes that might pop up with future date changes - those will give you a much better picture of what's actually happening with your return. Fingers crossed you see that 846 code soon!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My "As Of" date just changed from May 8 to May 22 this morning and I've been refreshing my transcript obsessively trying to figure out what it means. Filed in early February too and still waiting on my refund - the anxiety is real when you're depending on that money. Reading through all these comments is actually really reassuring though. Sounds like the date change itself is pretty normal and often means they're actively working on your return. I'm going to try to stop checking my transcript every few hours (easier said than done) and just watch for those specific codes everyone mentioned - 570, 571, and especially 846. Thanks for posting this question OP, you're definitely not alone in this frustrating waiting game! Hoping we both see some good news soon.

I'm in the exact same situation! Filed in late January and my "As Of" date just changed from May 10 to May 24 yesterday. I've been checking my transcript daily (probably obsessively at this point) and seeing that date jump forward made my heart skip a beat. After reading through all these comments, I'm feeling a bit more optimistic that it might actually be a good sign. It sounds like the IRS is at least actively looking at our returns when these dates change. I'm going to try to focus on watching for those specific transaction codes everyone mentioned rather than just the date changes. The waiting is absolutely brutal though, especially when you're counting on that refund for bills. Hang in there OP - seems like we're all in this together! Hopefully we'll start seeing some 846 codes soon 🤞

I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now! My "As Of" date just changed from May 6 to May 20 this morning and I immediately started panicking. Filed back in early February and have been waiting on my refund for over 3 months now - I was starting to think something was seriously wrong with my return. Reading through all these comments has been such a relief though. It sounds like these date changes are actually pretty common and often mean the IRS is actively working on our accounts, which is better than radio silence I guess! I've been obsessively checking my transcript multiple times a day (definitely not good for my mental health) but now I know to focus on watching for those specific transaction codes like 570, 571, and the holy grail 846. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're depending on that money. I had to put some bills on credit cards because I was counting on my refund by now. But it sounds like we February filers are all in the same boat this year with the processing delays. Hang in there everyone - hopefully we'll start seeing some real movement soon! 🤞
