May 5th Transcript Code 846 Check-In - Anyone Received DDD or Deposit?

Per IRS Publication 1267 (Rev. 5-2023), cycle code 0505 processing should have completed by now. According to the IRS Processing Timeline Matrix, most 0505 filers should be seeing an 846 refund code on their transcript within 7-10 business days of cycle completion. Has anyone in the 0505 batch received their Direct Deposit Date or actual refund deposit? I'm working remotely and need to coordinate some business expenses with this timeline. My transcript still shows TC 570 with no 846 in sight.

I'm in the same cycle code group and still nothing for me either. Last year I was also in the 0505 batch and got my deposit exactly 8 days after the cycle date. This year it's been 12 days already and my transcript hasn't updated at all! I keep checking the WMR tool about 5 times a day (I know, I know) but it's still on the first bar. I'm getting really worried because I've never had it take this long before. Has anyone called the IRS to ask about these delays?

Isn't it possible that the IRS is just backed up this year? I mean, didn't they hire fewer seasonal workers than last year? And wouldn't that explain why even routine processing is taking longer than their published timelines?

I'm in cycle 0505 too and it's been exactly 14 days with no update. My refund amount is $3,247 and I'm starting to get concerned. Has anyone checked if there's a specific dollar threshold that triggers additional review? I've heard amounts over $2,500 sometimes get extra scrutiny.

I believe the delay is probably normal. My transcript updated last night, actually. I was cycle 0505 and just got my 846 code with a DDD of 5/18. It seems they're processing in batches, and some of us just fall into later mini-batches within the cycle.

Anyone try calling the tax advocate service? I'm getting frustrated with this delay. • Filed: 4/1/2024 • Accepted: 4/1/2024 • Cycle Code: 0505 • Current codes: 570/971 • No 846 yet I've tried calling the main IRS number but can't get through. Is there a better number or time to call?

TAS won't help yet. Too early. Need to wait 21 days minimum. Even then, they're backlogged. Better to call IRS directly. Try early morning. 7am Eastern.

I was in EXACTLY the same boat last week! Had you checked your mail? Sometimes they send a letter explaining the 971 code before updating your transcript. Did you have any life changes this year that might trigger verification?

Has anyone found a way to actually speak to a human at the IRS? I've tried the main number, the refund hotline, and even the taxpayer advocate line with no luck. Is there a specific extension or prompt sequence that works better than others?

Guys I was in the same boat last week 😂 Cycle 0505 and nothing for WEEKS. I tried calling the IRS like 20 times (no joke) and kept getting the "high call volume" message. Finally used Claimyr.com to get through - worth every penny! Got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my return was just in the final verification stage and nothing was wrong. The stress relief alone was worth it. My 846 code showed up literally the next day with a DDD for this Friday! Check them out: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c - saved me from having a panic attack while waiting for rent money.

This reminds me of last year when I was in cycle 0505. My transcript didn't update for THREE WEEKS after the cycle date. Meanwhile, my sister filed the same day, also got cycle 0505, and received her refund a week later. The difference? She had a simple return with just W-2 income, while I had self-employment, investment income, and some education credits. The more complex your return, the longer it takes even within the same cycle code. If your return has any credits or deductions that require additional verification, you'll be waiting longer than others in your cycle.

Is there a specific list of credits or deductions that trigger these extra verifications? I claimed the American Opportunity Credit for my daughter's college expenses and I'm wondering if that's what's causing my delay.

I just checked my transcript again on May 17th, and my 846 code finally appeared! I was cycle 0505 and had been stuck with a 570 code since April 29th. For those still waiting, there seems to be a pattern of Friday night/Saturday morning updates for many 0505 people. I'm scheduled for direct deposit on May 22nd according to the transcript. What a relief after all this waiting!

That's great news! Thanks for updating us. It gives me hope that mine might update soon too. Did you get any notification or did you just happen to check and see it had changed?

I'm hesitant to ask, but does anyone know if amended returns also follow these cycle patterns? I'm in a similar situation but filed an amended return about 3 weeks ago. Not sure if I should be looking at these same codes or if the process is completely different for amendments.

Just got my 846 code this morning! According to IRM 21.4.1.3(7), the 846 code indicates that the refund has been scheduled. Per the Direct Deposit timeline in Publication 5486, funds should be available within 1-5 business days of the DDD listed on the transcript. For those still waiting, remember that Section 6611(e) of the IRC provides for interest payments on refunds not issued within 45 days of the filing deadline (or the date filed, if later). So even with delays, you may receive interest if it goes beyond that timeframe.

I had this exact issue last year - stuck in cycle 0505 with no updates. After two weeks of checking daily, I finally got my 846 code and received the deposit three days later. This year I was in cycle 0504 and it was much faster - got my deposit within a week of the cycle date. The IRS seems to be processing certain batches faster than others this year, and unfortunately 0505 appears to be one of the slower ones.
