Lost EIN from last year's application - need help finding it ASAP!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I sent in my EIN application last year and now I can't seem to find the number. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to track it down? I'm starting to get worried because I need it for some important paperwork.

Ugh, been there done that. The IRS can be such a pain sometimes. Have you tried calling them directly? It might take forever to get through, but they should be able to help you out.

β’Yeah, I've been trying to call but the wait times are insane. I feel like I'm gonna grow old before I get through to anyone π©

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

β’20 bucks tho? Idk man, seems steep just to make a phone call.

β’I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. For me, not having to sit on hold for hours was totally worth it.

Have you checked your email? Sometimes they send the EIN in a confirmation email after you apply. Might be worth digging through your inbox!

Okay, let me break this down for you. Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your email first. The IRS usually sends a confirmation email with your EIN. 2. If you can't find the email, look for any physical mail from the IRS. They sometimes send it via snail mail too. 3. No luck with mail? Try the IRS Business & Specialty Tax Line at 800-829-4933. They're open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday. 4. If you applied online, you might be able to use the EIN lookup tool on the IRS website. 5. As a last resort, you can file Form 4506-T to request a copy of your EIN application. Remember, patience is key when dealing with the IRS. Good luck!

Have you tried checking the IRS website? They have an EIN lookup tool that might help. Just google 'IRS EIN lookup' and it should pop up.

Oof, losing track of your EIN is rough. I had a similar issue last year and ended up having to request a new one. It was a hassle, but sometimes its the only way forward if you cant find the original.

β’Oh no, I really hope it doesn't come to that. How long did the process take for you?

β’It took about 4 weeks from start to finish. Not ideal, but better than being stuck without one.

Hey, just a thought - did you use any tax software or services to file last year? Sometimes they keep records of stuff like EINs. Might be worth checking if you did!

Man, the IRS needs to get with the times. In this day and age, we should be able to access all this info online easily. SMH π€¦ββοΈ

Pro tip from someone who's been through this nightmare - if you applied online, try logging back into the IRS website with the same credentials you used. Sometimes the EIN is still visible in your application history. Also, check your bank statements from around that time - if you paid any fees, it might help you narrow down the exact date you applied, which could help when you call the IRS. They can search by application date if you have it!
