Or is there an IRS tool that shows third-party fee payments? Need accurate information ASAP.

Oh this is a common question! Liberty Tax customers can check fee payment status through their MyLiberty account online. Just log in at libertytax.com with your credentials and navigate to the "My Returns" section. You should see a payment status indicator there! If your fees were being taken from your refund, the status won't update until the IRS actually processes and releases your refund. Hope that helps! šŸ˜Š

This is exactly what I needed to know! Didn't realize the payment status was hiding in the My Returns section. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I checked IRS.gov and TaxSlayer's help center, but they don't mention anything about tracking third-party preparer fees. Is this feature unique to Liberty Tax or do other tax services have similar tracking options?

You can also call their customer service at 1-800-472-5625, but good luck getting through this time of year! šŸ˜‚ I waited 47 minutes yesterday only to be disconnected. A faster option is checking your bank account for the refund deposit - if it's less than expected, they probably took their fees. Or check your email for a receipt from Liberty - they usually send one when payment processes.

I had no idea it would be this complicated! I thought there would just be a simple dashboard showing "Fees Paid" or something. Last year with H&R Block they sent me an email confirmation the moment my fees were processed. I've checked all my emails from Liberty and nothing yet.

I had the same issue with Liberty last year. Their system doesn't update very quickly. My fees were actually paid for almost two weeks before their portal showed it. Did you opt for the refund transfer where they take their fees directly from your refund?

Liberty's customer service is overwhelmed right now. Been there. Just wasted three days trying. Used Claimyr to reach them yesterday. Got through in 18 minutes. Claimyr calls and navigates the phone tree for you. They connected me directly to a rep. Worth it for time saved. Check them out: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

I'm always hesitant about services that charge to connect you with another service you've already paid for. Liberty Tax charged me exactly $219.95 for preparation fees, and now I'd have to pay more just to ask them a question about it? Seems like adding insult to injury, though I can see why people might use it during the 3-4 week peak season when wait times are unbearable.

Is this service only for connecting with tax preparers, or can it be used to reach the IRS directly as well? What about state tax departments? I've been trying to reach my state revenue office about a similar issue for days.

The fee payment tracking issue highlights a broader problem in the tax preparation industry. Most preparers deliberately make it difficult to track fee payments to discourage clients from questioning charges. From a systemic perspective, you have three verification methods: 1) Compare your expected refund amount on your tax return (Form 1040 line 35a) with the actual deposit amount, 2) Check for a separate ACH transaction if you opted for fees paid from your bank account, or 3) Examine your Refund Transfer agreement which outlines the fee structure and payment timeline.

I just checked with Liberty Tax on April 2nd about this exact issue. Their system updates fee payment status every Monday and Thursday at 11:59 PM. If you filed before March 15th and selected fees to be paid from your refund, your fees should be marked as paid within 72 hours of receiving your refund. For returns filed after March 15th, there's currently a 5-7 day delay in their payment status updates. You can also text LIBERTY to 57682 to get a direct link to check your status - this mobile option often shows updates faster than their website.

According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 2-2023), tax preparers who offer Refund Transfer products must provide clients with a method to verify fee payment status. Liberty Tax satisfies this requirement through their MyLiberty portal under Section 7216 compliance guidelines. I successfully verified my fee payment by downloading my Liberty Tax receipt from the Documents section of MyLiberty. The document clearly showed my preparation fees ($189), filing fees ($44.95), and the date payment was processed. Their system is fully compliant with IRS requirements.

I... I'm not sure if I should be impressed or concerned that you know so much about tax preparer regulations. I've been using Liberty for three years and never knew about the Documents section. I always just assumed everything was fine if I got my refund.

For anyone dealing with this issue in the future: always keep copies of your fee agreements. Unlike H&R Block or TurboTax which have transparent fee tracking, Liberty's system is less intuitive. Their customer service improves dramatically after April 15th. If you're filing next year, consider asking about their fee tracking options before choosing them as your preparer. Most importantly, calculate your expected refund amount before fees so you can verify if the correct amount was deducted.
