TaxAct payment plan setup confusion - where do I manage my IRS installment agreement?
I recently filed my taxes through TaxAct and ended up owing more than I could pay at once. I decided to go with their option to set up a payment plan (Form 9465) through their software. I put down some money upfront to reduce what I owe, and I remember the system asking me what day of the month I wanted the payments to be taken out. The problem is, I have absolutely no clue where to go now to view my payment schedule, change my card info, or check my remaining balance. Does anyone know if this is handled directly through the IRS website, or is there some third-party service handling it? I've tried reaching out to TaxAct customer service but got nowhere - they have zero helpful information about managing the payment plan once it's set up. I'm starting to worry about missing payments since I can't even find where to manage this thing!

The payment plan you set up through TaxAct (Form 9465) is actually an IRS installment agreement, not a TaxAct payment plan. TaxAct just helps you complete and submit the form during your filing process. Once approved, your installment agreement is managed directly through the IRS. I'm in the same boat with TaxAct! One thing nobody mentioned - check your email spam folder. I found an email from the IRS with instructions about my payment plan that got filtered out. It had a link to set up my online account and explained the whole process. Also the letter confirming your payment plan approval (with all the details) comes separately from your tax return confirmation, so watch for that too. Once I got that letter and set up my online account, everything showed up correctly and I could manage my payments there.
