Just got 846 code with 4/5 refund date - filed on 3/15

Finally saw movement on my transcripts! Just checked and they updated with 846 code showing release date of 4/5. I filed on 3/15 and was getting worried since it'd been almost a month with no updates. Make sure y'all check your transcripts today because they seem to be processing a bunch of returns right now.

This is excellent news! Code 846 is the refund issued code, which means the IRS has processed your return and scheduled your refund. The date associated with code 846 (4/5 in your case) is when the refund will be released to your bank. If you're receiving a direct deposit, you might see it 1-5 business days after that date, depending on your bank's processing time. If you're getting a paper check, it could take 1-3 weeks to arrive by mail after the release date. For anyone else checking their transcripts, here are the common codes you might see: • 570 - Additional account action pending (temporary hold) • 571 - Resolved account condition • 766 - Credit to your account • 768 - Earned Income Credit • 846 - Refund issued The IRS typically updates transcripts overnight between Thursday and Friday, so that's usually the best time to check for updates.

Thank you for this breakdown! Really helps me understand whats going on. I opted for direct deposit so hopefully I'll see it next week.

0 coins

This is super helpful, but I've had a 570 code for 3 weeks now. Does that mean im screwed?

0 coins

Not necessarily screwed with a 570 code. It just means there's some review happening. Many people see it resolve within 2-4 weeks. If it goes longer than that, might be worth calling the IRS.

0 coins

Omg thanks for posting the codes! I've been trying to figure out what all these numbers mean on my transcript. The IRS website is like reading hieroglyphics 😫

0 coins

I had no idea they mostly update Thursday nights! Been checking mine every morning like a crazy person 😂

0 coins

Do you work for the IRS? You seem to know alot

0 coins

Not IRS, just been dealing with them for many years and learned the hard way. I also use taxr.ai to help interpret all this mess - saves me tons of time trying to decipher everything.

0 coins

I was in exactly the same boat but was totally confused by my transcript until I used taxr.ai - it's actually insane how much clearer everything became. It analyzed everything and told me exactly when to expect my refund and explained all those weird codes. Saved me hours of googling and anxiety, and I didn't have to play detective trying to piece everything together. https://taxr.ai made a huge difference for me.

0 coins

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It does wayyy more than just read the transcript! It explains every single code and date, tells you if there are any issues that might delay your refund, when to expect your money, and what each update means for your specific situation. Totally changed my experience this tax season!

0 coins

OMG I JUST TRIED IT! Why isn't this more widely known?? It answered questions I didn't even know to ask about my transcript. Literally everyone dealing with tax returns needs to use this!

0 coins

another tax service? idk man seems like everyone's trying to make money off our frustration with the IRS 🙄

0 coins

I thought the same thing until I was on week 6 of waiting with zero clue what was happening. It's the best money I've spent this year considering the peace of mind it gave me.

0 coins

yall be careful with these services asking for personal info

0 coins

That's what's cool - it just needs your transcript, which you download yourself from the IRS. No sensitive info like SSN or anything. I was worried about that too but it's super straightforward.

After weeks of checking my transcript and seeing no movement, I finally got through to an IRS agent using claimyr.com. The rep told me my return was just sitting in a backlog and pushed it through. Three days later boom - 846 code appeared! Talking to a real human at the IRS got my refund released so much faster than waiting it out. The phone callback was worth every penny because I got actual answers instead of stressing for another month.

0 coins

wait you can actually get someone on the phone from the irs? how does this work?

0 coins

Yeah! Claimyr basically waits on hold for you with the IRS (which can take hours) and then calls you when an agent is about to pick up. You just tell them which IRS department you need to reach. Saved me from wasting a whole day sitting on hold.

0 coins

I've been calling the main IRS number for 2 weeks and never get through. Is this some sorta scam or does it actually connect you?

0 coins

Not a scam at all - they just have technology that keeps dialing and waiting on hold so you don't have to. When I used it, I got a call back in about 90 minutes letting me know an agent was on the line. Best decision I made during this whole tax mess.

0 coins

duuuude i saw this mentioned somewhere else and thought it was BS. but i'm on week 8 waiting for my refund so might actually try it 😩

0 coins

congrats! mine FINALLY updated yesterday too. filed 3/10 and got 846 code for 4/3 deposit. this was the longest I've ever waited.

0 coins

Nothing on mine yet 😭 Filed 3/1 and still stuck on still processing. WMR hasn't updated in weeks. This is torture

0 coins

Same boat. Filed 2/28 and nothing. Absolutely NOTHING. Checking WMR has become my morning ritual of disappointment.

0 coins

have yall tried calling? I was stuck for 7 weeks last year until I finally called and they fixed whatever the issue was in like 5 minutes

0 coins

I tried calling like 20 times and can never get thru. Just endless hold times and then it hangs up on me

0 coins

Use claimyr.com - I was in the same exact situation and they got me connected to the IRS. Found out there was a simple verification issue they fixed immediately.

0 coins

Does anyone know if the 4/5 date is when it actually hits your bank account or just when IRS sends it? My bank usually takes 2-3 days to process deposits

0 coins

That's when the IRS releases it. Direct deposits usually take 1-5 business days after that date depending on your bank. Some banks show pending deposits early, others wait until funds fully clear.

0 coins

Thanks! So I should expect it sometime between 4/5 and 4/10 then. My bank is usually pretty slow with processing

0 coins

I don't even know how to check my transcript... is there a guide somewhere? The IRS website is so confusing

0 coins

Go to IRS.gov > Get Your Tax Record > Get Transcript Online > create account if you don't have one > choose Account Transcript for the tax year you need > look for the most recent dates and codes. Code 846 is the holy grail we're all looking for lol

0 coins

THANK U! will try this tonight. Been using Where's My Refund and it just says still processing for weeks 🙄

0 coins

If you have trouble understanding what you're looking at, taxr.ai can help explain everything. I was looking at mine like it was written in another language before I found that tool.

0 coins

You filed 3/15 and already got a DDD? I filed 2/20 and still nothing. WTF is the IRS doing over there?? 🤬

0 coins

They're processing returns completely out of order this year. I filed 1/29 (first day possible) and just got my refund last week. Meanwhile my sister filed mid-March and got hers in 2 weeks.

0 coins

Thats complete bullshit. I'm calling them tommorow

0 coins

Good luck getting through 💀 I spent 3 days trying before giving up

0 coins

Check your bank account too! Sometimes the money hits before the WMR tool even updates. My transcript updated on a Friday but the money was actually in my account Thursday night.

0 coins

Anyone know if having a 570 and 971 code means im going to get a letter? Been stuck on these codes for 3 weeks

0 coins

Yes, 971 means notice issued. You'll probably get a letter in the mail explaining what's going on. Could be identity verification, could be they adjusted your refund amount, could be they need more info. The letter will tell you.

0 coins

Ughhh more waiting. Thanks for the info

0 coins

I had those codes and never got a letter, then suddenly one day they changed to 846. The system is broken.

0 coins

I noticed they updated a bunch of transcripts today. Must have been a big processing batch or something. Filed 3/5, transcript updated with 846 code today, refund date 4/3! Just in time to pay these damn bills 😂

0 coins

FINALLY SOMETHING POSITIVE IN THIS SUBREDDIT! All I ever see is people complaining and freaking out about delays. Congrats on your 846 - spend it wisely lol

0 coins

Haha thanks! Believe me I was one of the complainers until today. Now I can finally stop obsessively checking the IRS website 5x a day 😅

0 coins

Did you claim any credits? EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those usually take longer to process. I filed 3/1 with EIC and still waiting...

0 coins

No credits this year, just a standard return. That might explain why mine went through faster. Last year I claimed EIC and it took forever.

0 coins

EIC always delays things. They have extra verification steps for those returns because of past fraud. I'm in the same boat - filed 2/25 with EIC and still waiting.

0 coins

Y'all really need to stop checking everyday. Just set it and forget it. The refund will come when it comes, and checking 15 times a day won't make it come any faster 🤷‍♂️

0 coins

Easy to say when you're not counting on that money to pay bills that are due! Some of us NEED to know when it's coming.

0 coins

loool right?? i bet this person already got their refund months ago 😒

0 coins

For any1 freaking out about delays - the IRS is super behind this year. Called them last week (used claimyr.com to get through) and the agent told me they're dealing with massive backlogs from last year still. So even "normal" returns are taking 3-4 weeks minimum. Dont panic if ur still waiting!

0 coins

Did the agent say anything about why the backlog is so bad this year? I thought they hired more staff recently.

0 coins

She said they're still training a lot of the new hires and their computer systems went through an upgrade that caused problems. Classic govt efficiency 🙄

0 coins

Is anyone else's transcript completely different from the WMR tool? My transcript shows 846 but WMR still says "still processing" 🤔

0 coins

Transcript is ALWAYS more accurate and updates first. WMR is like using Internet Explorer in 2023 lol... slow and unreliable. Trust your transcript.

0 coins

WMR is garbage. I got my refund last month and it STILL says processing when I check it.

0 coins

Just checked mine after seeing this post...nothing 😭 Filed 2/25 and still says processing. Cycle code 05 but no updates in WEEKS

0 coins

If your still confused about how to read your transcript, I highly recommend using taxr.ai - it saved me so much time and frustration. It explains every code and date in plain English and even predicts when you'll get your refund. Much better than asking random strangers on reddit to explain IRS codes lol.

0 coins

Just checked this out cuz of your comment and WOW it's actually good??? Where has this been all tax season? Would have saved me so many headaches.

0 coins

Right?? I found it after spending hours trying to figure out what a 570 code meant for my refund. It told me exactly what was happening and when to expect my money.

0 coins

me over here still waiting on my 2022 amended return 💀

0 coins

Amended returns are in their own special circle of IRS hell. I waited 14 months for mine last time.

0 coins

14 MONTHS?!?! omg i thought my 6 month wait was bad. this system is broken beyond repair.
