Just got 846 code with 4/5 refund date - filed on 3/15
Finally saw movement on my transcripts! Just checked and they updated with 846 code showing release date of 4/5. I filed on 3/15 and was getting worried since it'd been almost a month with no updates. Make sure y'all check your transcripts today because they seem to be processing a bunch of returns right now.

This is excellent news! Code 846 is the refund issued code, which means the IRS has processed your return and scheduled your refund. The date associated with code 846 (4/5 in your case) is when the refund will be released to your bank. If you're receiving a direct deposit, you might see it 1-5 business days after that date, depending on your bank's processing time. If you're getting a paper check, it could take 1-3 weeks to arrive by mail after the release date. For anyone else checking their transcripts, here are the common codes you might see: • 570 - Additional account action pending (temporary hold) • 571 - Resolved account condition • 766 - Credit to your account • 768 - Earned Income Credit • 846 - Refund issued The IRS typically updates transcripts overnight between Thursday and Friday, so that's usually the best time to check for updates.

•Thank you for this breakdown! Really helps me understand whats going on. I opted for direct deposit so hopefully I'll see it next week.

•This is super helpful, but I've had a 570 code for 3 weeks now. Does that mean im screwed?

GalaxyGuardian
•Not necessarily screwed with a 570 code. It just means there's some review happening. Many people see it resolve within 2-4 weeks. If it goes longer than that, might be worth calling the IRS.

•Omg thanks for posting the codes! I've been trying to figure out what all these numbers mean on my transcript. The IRS website is like reading hieroglyphics 😫

•Not IRS, just been dealing with them for many years and learned the hard way. I also use taxr.ai to help interpret all this mess - saves me tons of time trying to decipher everything.

I was in exactly the same boat but was totally confused by my transcript until I used taxr.ai - it's actually insane how much clearer everything became. It analyzed everything and told me exactly when to expect my refund and explained all those weird codes. Saved me hours of googling and anxiety, and I didn't have to play detective trying to piece everything together. https://taxr.ai made a huge difference for me.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

Andre Laurent
•It does wayyy more than just read the transcript! It explains every single code and date, tells you if there are any issues that might delay your refund, when to expect your money, and what each update means for your specific situation. Totally changed my experience this tax season!

•OMG I JUST TRIED IT! Why isn't this more widely known?? It answered questions I didn't even know to ask about my transcript. Literally everyone dealing with tax returns needs to use this!

•I thought the same thing until I was on week 6 of waiting with zero clue what was happening. It's the best money I've spent this year considering the peace of mind it gave me.

•That's what's cool - it just needs your transcript, which you download yourself from the IRS. No sensitive info like SSN or anything. I was worried about that too but it's super straightforward.

After weeks of checking my transcript and seeing no movement, I finally got through to an IRS agent using claimyr.com. The rep told me my return was just sitting in a backlog and pushed it through. Three days later boom - 846 code appeared! Talking to a real human at the IRS got my refund released so much faster than waiting it out. The phone callback was worth every penny because I got actual answers instead of stressing for another month.

•wait you can actually get someone on the phone from the irs? how does this work?
0 coins
Jamal Brown
•Yeah! Claimyr basically waits on hold for you with the IRS (which can take hours) and then calls you when an agent is about to pick up. You just tell them which IRS department you need to reach. Saved me from wasting a whole day sitting on hold.

•I've been calling the main IRS number for 2 weeks and never get through. Is this some sorta scam or does it actually connect you?
0 coins
Jamal Brown
•Not a scam at all - they just have technology that keeps dialing and waiting on hold so you don't have to. When I used it, I got a call back in about 90 minutes letting me know an agent was on the line. Best decision I made during this whole tax mess.

Does anyone know if the 4/5 date is when it actually hits your bank account or just when IRS sends it? My bank usually takes 2-3 days to process deposits
0 coins
Dmitry Petrov
•That's when the IRS releases it. Direct deposits usually take 1-5 business days after that date depending on your bank. Some banks show pending deposits early, others wait until funds fully clear.

•Thanks! So I should expect it sometime between 4/5 and 4/10 then. My bank is usually pretty slow with processing

•Go to IRS.gov > Get Your Tax Record > Get Transcript Online > create account if you don't have one > choose Account Transcript for the tax year you need > look for the most recent dates and codes. Code 846 is the holy grail we're all looking for lol

•They're processing returns completely out of order this year. I filed 1/29 (first day possible) and just got my refund last week. Meanwhile my sister filed mid-March and got hers in 2 weeks.

Check your bank account too! Sometimes the money hits before the WMR tool even updates. My transcript updated on a Friday but the money was actually in my account Thursday night.

Anyone know if having a 570 and 971 code means im going to get a letter? Been stuck on these codes for 3 weeks
0 coins
Paolo Moretti
•Yes, 971 means notice issued. You'll probably get a letter in the mail explaining what's going on. Could be identity verification, could be they adjusted your refund amount, could be they need more info. The letter will tell you.

I noticed they updated a bunch of transcripts today. Must have been a big processing batch or something. Filed 3/5, transcript updated with 846 code today, refund date 4/3! Just in time to pay these damn bills 😂

Did you claim any credits? EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those usually take longer to process. I filed 3/1 with EIC and still waiting...
0 coins
Mateo Rodriguez
•No credits this year, just a standard return. That might explain why mine went through faster. Last year I claimed EIC and it took forever.
0 coins
Javier Gomez
•EIC always delays things. They have extra verification steps for those returns because of past fraud. I'm in the same boat - filed 2/25 with EIC and still waiting.

Y'all really need to stop checking everyday. Just set it and forget it. The refund will come when it comes, and checking 15 times a day won't make it come any faster 🤷♂️

For any1 freaking out about delays - the IRS is super behind this year. Called them last week (used claimyr.com to get through) and the agent told me they're dealing with massive backlogs from last year still. So even "normal" returns are taking 3-4 weeks minimum. Dont panic if ur still waiting!

Freya Larsen
•Did the agent say anything about why the backlog is so bad this year? I thought they hired more staff recently.

•She said they're still training a lot of the new hires and their computer systems went through an upgrade that caused problems. Classic govt efficiency 🙄

Is anyone else's transcript completely different from the WMR tool? My transcript shows 846 but WMR still says "still processing" 🤔

If your still confused about how to read your transcript, I highly recommend using taxr.ai - it saved me so much time and frustration. It explains every code and date in plain English and even predicts when you'll get your refund. Much better than asking random strangers on reddit to explain IRS codes lol.
