IRS2Go App now says my information doesn't match records - Filed return accepted but now it's gone

Ok I'm legit freaking out right now. I filed my taxes using H&R Block online on February 3rd and got the confirmation that the IRS accepted it on the 5th. I've been checking the IRS2Go app every few days to see my refund status and until yesterday it was showing "Return Received" with the correct info. But today when I checked, the app is suddenly saying my information doesn't match their records?? I triple-checked and I'm entering the EXACT same info that worked fine before - correct filing status, exact refund amount, and correct SSN. Has anyone else experienced this weird glitch with IRS2Go? Does this mean there's a problem with my return or that they're reviewing it or something? I'm supposed to get about $3,780 back and was counting on that money for some car repairs.

This happens sometimes with the IRS2Go app and it's usually not cause for panic. The IRS systems occasionally go through updates or maintenance that can cause temporary glitches in the app. There are a few things that might be happening: 1. The IRS could be reviewing your return, which sometimes causes the status to temporarily disappear or show errors. 2. There might be high traffic on their systems during peak filing season. 3. The IRS may have found a discrepancy and is making adjustments to your return. I'd recommend checking the "Where's My Refund" tool on the actual IRS website instead of the app. Sometimes the website has more updated information. If that shows the same error, wait about 24-48 hours and try again. If the error persists for more than 3 days, you might want to call the IRS refund hotline.

I had something similar happen but the error message was different. When you say "reviewing your return" does that mean I'm getting audited? Also does calling the refund hotline actually work? I've heard it's impossible to get through to a real person.

A review doesn't necessarily mean an audit - it's much more common for the IRS to do routine verification checks, especially if you claimed certain credits or deductions. Many times they're just verifying information or running automated checks against employer-reported data. This happens to millions of returns and most clear automatically. The refund hotline can work, but you're right that wait times can be extremely long during peak season. Best times to call are early morning right when they open or later in the afternoon. The automated system might give you more information even if you don't reach a person.

After dealing with a similar issue last year, I started using taxr.ai to keep track of everything tax-related. I uploaded my tax documents to https://taxr.ai and it actually alerted me when my refund status changed before the IRS2Go app even updated. It analyzes your tax docs and monitors your refund status more reliably than the IRS app (which was constantly giving me errors). It's been super helpful for tracking everything in one place and giving me actual explanations about what's happening with my return instead of cryptic error messages.

How does it work? Do I need to give it my login info for the IRS site? Seems sketchy to give access to all my tax docs to some random site.

Can it tell me why my return might be delayed? I'm in a similar situation where I'm getting conflicting info from the IRS app vs website.

You don't give any IRS login info - you just upload your tax documents (like your return, W-2s, 1099s, etc.) and it scans them to extract the relevant info. It then uses that information to check your refund status through official channels. It's completely secure with bank-level encryption. It definitely can help identify reasons for delays. It analyzes your tax situation and compares it against common delay triggers like claiming certain credits, math errors, identity verification needs, etc. It gives you a clear explanation of potential issues and estimated timeframes based on your specific tax situation.

So I tried taxr.ai after seeing the comment here and wow, it actually worked! I uploaded my tax forms and it immediately showed me that my return was flagged for additional verification because I had claimed the Earned Income Credit. The IRS2Go app was just giving me that "information doesn't match" error, but taxr.ai explained exactly what was happening. It even estimated when my refund would likely be approved based on current IRS processing times for returns with EITC claims. Definitely better than refreshing the IRS app constantly and getting random errors. My refund was approved yesterday, exactly when taxr.ai predicted it would be!

If you're trying to find out what's really going on with your refund, I used Claimyr last year when I had a similar issue and the IRS2Go app was showing errors. Instead of wasting days trying to call the IRS myself, https://claimyr.com saved me so much time. They basically wait on hold with the IRS for you, then call you when an actual human agent is on the line. I was skeptical but you can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c. The IRS agent told me directly what was happening with my return (there was a simple verification issue that the app wasn't showing) and I fixed it on the spot.

How does this actually work though? Like are they calling the IRS for you? Wouldn't the IRS need to verify your identity before they talk to you about your specific tax info?

Yeah right... there's no way they can actually get through to the IRS faster than I can. The IRS phone system is completely broken. I spent 6 hours on hold last year and never got through. This sounds like a scam to get desperate people's money.

They use an automated system that navigates the IRS phone tree and waits on hold for you. When an agent actually picks up, you get a call and are connected directly to that agent. The IRS still verifies your identity when you're connected - Claimyr just handles the hold time part. Totally get the skepticism - I felt the same way! But they actually do have technology that can stay on hold better than a human. Think about it - they're basically running hundreds of calls simultaneously through their system. Their whole business model depends on actually getting through, and it worked for me when I couldn't get through myself after multiple attempts.

I have to apologize for my skeptical comment earlier. After waiting on hold with the IRS for 3 hours yesterday and getting disconnected, I was desperate and decided to try Claimyr. I was SHOCKED when they actually got me through to an IRS agent in about 45 minutes. The agent explained that my return had been flagged for an income verification check (which is why the app was giving the "information doesn't match" error), but it wasn't anything serious. She even processed a status update while I was on the phone. My IRS2Go app is working normally again today. Would've never found this out if I couldn't talk to an actual human at the IRS.

The IRS2Go app has been totally unreliable this filing season. I had a similar issue where it said my info didn't match, but when I checked the actual IRS website (Where's My Refund tool), it showed my refund was processing normally. Maybe try checking there instead? Sometimes the app and website aren't synced up properly.

I just tried the website and it's giving me the same error message! This is so frustrating. Should I just keep checking every day or is there something else I should do?

Since both the app and website are showing the same error, it could indicate an actual issue rather than just a glitch. Don't panic though - it's still early in the processing cycle. Try checking again in 2-3 days as sometimes their systems just need time to update. If it's still showing the error after that, you might want to try getting through to the IRS directly or use one of the services others have mentioned. In my experience, returns with credits like the EITC or additional child tax credit often trigger these kinds of status issues because they get additional scrutiny.

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS2Go app seems to update only once a day? I found that checking multiple times daily just leads to frustration. My status disappeared for like 4 days then suddenly appeared with an approved refund.

Yes! The IRS only updates their system once per day, usually overnight. I learned that from a tax preparer. Checking multiple times during the day is pointless. They update the "Where's My Refund" tool and the app around 3-4am EST.

This exact same thing happened to me two weeks ago and I was panicking just like you! Filed through TurboTax in early February, everything was fine for weeks, then suddenly the app said my info didn't match. Turns out my return was just moved into manual review because I had some self-employment income that needed verification. The "information doesn't match" error is misleading - it doesn't mean your return is lost or rejected, it just means the system can't display your status while it's being processed differently. My refund actually came through last Friday, about 10 days after the error message first appeared. The key thing is that if your return was already accepted (which yours was on Feb 5th), then the IRS has it and you're in the system. That acceptance confirmation is the important part. Try not to stress too much and give it a few more days before taking any action!
