IRS Website Outage - Anyone File on 2/1 With Transcripts Updated from Blank?

Hey tax folks - I'm dealing with the current IRS website outage and can't access my account. I filed on 2/1 (military family, so we're usually on top of this stuff) and my transcripts were completely blank last time I checked. I've been tracking my return through TurboTax, IRS2Go, and the Where's My Refund tool, but with the website down, I'm flying blind. According to the IRS operations dashboard, they're experiencing "technical difficulties" but no ETA on resolution. Anyone else file around the same time and see their transcripts update from blank recently? Trying to gauge if I should expect movement soon. Thanks!

Vanessa Figueroa

I'm seeing this pattern with several 2024 filings. Have you received any confirmation emails from the IRS since filing? What specific message did you see when your transcripts were blank - was it "N/A" or something else? Did you claim any refundable credits that might trigger additional review?

I'm in a similar situation... filed around the same time and had blank transcripts until yesterday. I was hesitant to try any third-party tools, but I finally used https://taxr.ai to help me understand what was happening with my transcript once it updated. It explained all those confusing codes and gave me a much clearer picture of where my return stands in processing. I think the IRS site being down is related to the high volume of returns they're processing right now.

The IRS website crashes are the worst timing! 😂 I had similar issues last year and wasted HOURS trying to get through on their phone line. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual human at the IRS in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my return was in processing despite the transcript being blank. Saved me days of frustration and redial finger cramps!

Isn't paying for a service to reach a government agency we already fund with our tax dollars a bit ridiculous? Couldn't you just keep calling at different times of day? What if they just tell you to wait anyway?

Been there. Done that. Worth every penny. Military moves coming up. Needed answers fast.

I was frustrated about this too initially, but after spending 3+ hours on redial hell, I changed my mind. Consider: • My time is worth something • Peace of mind has value • IRS underfunding isn't the service's fault • Getting actual answers prevented weeks of anxiety

I was so surprised by how complicated it is to reach the IRS! I tried calling step-by-step following their phone tree instructions, pressing options 1-2-1-3-2 like everyone suggested online, waiting on hold for 45 minutes, only to get disconnected. Then I tried again the next day with the same result. I finally used Claimyr and it worked exactly as advertised. I'm normally super budget-conscious but this was money well spent.

I filed exactly on February 1st at 8:43pm EST. My transcript was blank until February 18th (17 days later). It then updated with cycle code 20240805, which indicates processing on the 8th week of 2024. I received my direct deposit exactly 4 days after transcript update. The IRS is currently processing approximately 6.7 million returns per week according to their latest operations data, with an average processing time of 21 days for e-filed returns with no errors.

I'm skeptical about all these "normal processing time" explanations. According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, the IRS should process electronic returns within 21 days. We're now past that window for early February filers. The IRS's own Taxpayer Bill of Rights states we deserve clear explanations and prompt service. These website outages happen every year and they never properly staff for tax season despite knowing exactly when it's coming.

JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH THEM! They confirmed there's a processing delay affecting returns filed between January 29th and February 3rd! Something about a verification batch that got delayed. They're saying expect movement by end of week! Call them ASAP if you're in this window!

The 21-day processing timeline is a target, not a guarantee. Per the IRS Processing Delays notification on their website, certain conditions trigger extended review including EITC claims, CTC claims, incomplete information, and suspected identity theft indicators. These are standard verification procedures.

I was freaking out about my blank transcript too! I checked the IRS2Go app, TaxAct's refund status page, and even the irs.gov/refunds tool. Nothing showed up! Then I found this article on TaxSlayer's blog explaining that blank transcripts are actually normal for the first 2-3 weeks after filing. Mine just updated yesterday after filing on 2/2!

I think we need to cut the IRS some slack on the website issues. Based on my experience filing for the past 15 years, their systems always get overloaded during peak filing season. Last year, I remember three separate outages between February and April. The year before that, their Where's My Refund tool was giving incorrect information for days. I've learned to always have contingency plans for accessing my tax information, including requesting transcripts by mail if necessary.

Filed 2/1, had blank transcripts until yesterday, refund hit my acct this AM! Don't panic - system's working, just slow af. Checked WMR daily but it never updated past first bar. Transcript went from N/A to fully processed overnight. DDD was 2/28, deposit arrived 2/28. Hang tight!

This is excellent data. Did you notice any specific codes on your transcript when it finally updated? Were there any holds or did it go straight to an 846 refund issued code?

I'm so glad to hear your refund came through! That gives me hope mine will update soon too. I've been checking so cautiously, worried something went wrong with my return.

Did you have any refundable credits on your return? I'm wondering if that's what's causing some of the delays for certain filers but not others? 🤔
