IRS Transcript System Down - Anyone Else Unable to Access Since Yesterday?

I would like to inform the community about an ongoing issue with the IRS transcript system. I have been attempting to access my transcripts since 05:00 on April 11, 2024, without success. The system appears to be experiencing technical difficulties. Has anyone else encountered similar problems? If so, please share your experiences and any workarounds you may have discovered. I require these documents for my visa application process.

Same here. Can't get in. Tried multiple browsers. Need my transcripts ASAP. System keeps timing out. Very frustrating.

Are you getting a specific error message or just an endless loading screen? I'm wondering if there's a pattern to what's happening for different users.

Have u tried accessing during off-peak hrs? Like super early AM or late PM? Sometimes the system is just overloaded bc of tax szn. Might be worth trying at like 2am if ur desperate.

According to the IRS website maintenance schedule at https://www.irs.gov/help/irs-systems-maintenance, they often do updates on weekends. I checked at 3:45am this morning and still couldn't get in, but last year when this happened, I was able to access at around 4:30am on a Tuesday.

I think it might be more than just regular maintenance. I've been trying at different times since yesterday and nothing seems to work.

I had this exact same problem last year during filing season. Couldn't get into my transcripts for almost 3 days straight. Then suddenly it was working again with no explanation. Anyone know if they've made any official announcements about this outage?

I've been dealing with this issue too and found a workaround. Here's what I did: 1. First, I tried calling the IRS directly but couldn't get through after multiple attempts. 2. Then I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get connected to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes. 3. The agent confirmed there's a system-wide issue affecting transcript access. 4. They were able to verify my information and tell me when my refund was scheduled. 5. They also mentioned the system should be back up by tomorrow. Saved me hours of waiting on hold and gave me peace of mind about my refund status.

Is this service actually worth it though? Feels like we're paying for something that should be free. Like paying to skip the line at a government office. I get that it saves time, but shouldn't the IRS just hire more people instead of us having to pay third parties?

• Be careful with timing your transcript requests right now • I tried accessing for 2 days last week with no success • Finally got in on the third day only to find the system crashed mid-download • Had to start the verification process all over again • If you're on a deadline for your visa application, you might want to call the IRS directly • The phone wait is terrible but sometimes it's the only way when online systems fail

I think I might have found something that could possibly help? I was having the same issue for maybe 3-4 days, and I was getting really worried about accessing my transcripts. I eventually tried https://taxr.ai and it was able to sort of analyze what was happening with my account even though I couldn't access the actual transcript. It at least confirmed my return was received and processing, which was a relief. Maybe it could help others who are stuck waiting for the transcript system to come back online?

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.2.3.5.2, the IRS transcript system undergoes regular maintenance periods, typically scheduled during non-peak hours. However, unplanned outages can occur due to system overloads, especially during filing season. Per the most recent update on IRS.gov, they are experiencing higher than normal traffic volume on their online services. The official recommendation is to attempt access during early morning hours (3:00-6:00 AM ET) when system demand is lowest.

Is anyone receiving the Error Code 2001 when attempting to access the transcript database? This typically indicates an authentication verification failure in the IRS Identity Management System (IDMS). I'm concerned this might be more than just server overload.

Has anyone calculated how much time they're losing on this? I've spent exactly 3.5 hours over 2 days trying to access my transcripts. Need them to verify my $4,750 refund status. Called IRS exactly 8 times with average wait time of 47 minutes before disconnecting. This is costing people real money in wasted time.

Is there any way to request a transcript by mail instead? I can't keep wasting time on this broken system.

Shouldn't the IRS extend filing deadlines when their own systems prevent us from accessing necessary information? How are we supposed to verify our information when we can't even see our transcripts?

I finally got in on April 12th at around 2:15 AM! Such a relief. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get the documentation I needed for my mortgage application due on April 15th.
