IRS Return Processing Delay: No Refund Date After Verification Letter Request - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble getting my tax return processed. I've been waiting for a while now and can't seem to get a return date. I've already requested a verification letter from the IRS, but I'm not sure what else I can do. Has anyone else been in this situation? Any advice on how to speed things up or at least get some information about when I might receive my refund?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been waiting for months to get my return processed. It's so frustrating! Have you tried calling the IRS directly? Sometimes you can get more info that way.

I've tried calling, but the wait times are insane. I can never get through to a real person. 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You might have better luck getting through!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? 🤔

It worked for me! I was skeptical at first, but I was desperate. Got through to an agent in about 2 hours.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 🤮

I know it sucks to pay, but for me, it was worth it to finally get some answers.

Have you checked your tax transcript online? Sometimes that can give you more info about whats going on with your return.

I've been in the same boat. Here's what worked for me: 1. Check your tax transcript online (as someone else mentioned) 2. Make sure you didn't receive any notices in the mail that you missed 3. If you can get through on the phone, ask specifically about any holds or reviews on your account 4. Be patient (I know it sucks) - sometimes it just takes time Hang in there! The IRS is seriously backlogged, so a lot of us are dealing with delays.

Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I'll definitely check my transcript and keep an eye out for any notices.

Have you considered reaching out to your local Taxpayer Advocate Service? They can sometimes help if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay.

I hadn't thought of that. Do you know how to contact them?

You can find your local office on the IRS website. Just search for 'Taxpayer Advocate Service' and your state.

PSA: Make sure you're checking the IRS2Go app for updates too. Sometimes it updates before the website.

OP, did you file electronically or by paper? Paper returns are taking FOREVER to process right now.

I filed electronically. Thought it would be faster, but I guess not 🤷♂️

Oof, that sucks. E-file is usually faster. Must be some kind of hold-up with your return specifically.
