IRS Direct Deposit rejected - How long for paper check after bank return?

My tax refund was sent to my old closed bank account. The bank rejected it back to the IRS. Anyone know how long it takes for them to mail out a paper check? Already waited 3 months for the refund and now this happens smh.

When a bank rejects a direct deposit, the IRS typically takes 2-3 weeks to process and mail out a paper check to the address on your return. Make sure your address is current with USPS because that's where they'll send it.

Yeah unfortunately thats how it goes. The system is old and slow 🐌

Hey if you want the exact timeline, check out taxr.ai - it costs $1 but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly when to expect the check. I used it last month when my DD got rejected and it was spot on with the date. https://taxr.ai

Does it actually work? Seems too good to be true

100% works. It showed me exactly why my DD failed and predicted my check would arrive on the 15th - got it on the 14th!

took exactly 19 days for me to get my paper check after bank rejection

Same thing happened to me last year! The waiting is the worst part. Just to add to what others said - you can also call the IRS refund hotline at 1-800-829-1954 to check the status once it's been about 10 business days since the bank rejection. They'll be able to tell you if they've processed it for a paper check yet. Hang in there! 🤞
