ID Verification Reversal - Anyone Get a DDD After This?
Just had a strange situation with the IRS. Called them today about my refund status and they informed me my ID verification requirement was reversed - meaning I no longer need to verify my identity. Back in 2022, I had a similar verification issue that delayed things by 8 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this reversal situation? If so, did your transcript eventually update with a Direct Deposit Date (DDD)? Just trying to set realistic expectations based on others' experiences.

I'm sort of in a similar situation myself. The agent I spoke with mentioned that sometimes the system flags returns for ID verification, but then during their review process, they might determine that verification isn't actually necessary in certain cases? Especially if you've successfully verified your identity in previous years or if they have other ways to confirm your identity. Have you checked your transcript to see if there are any updates or cycle codes yet?

This makes a lot of sense. The IRS has been implementing more sophisticated verification systems over the past few years. When they cross-reference your information with what they already have on file, sometimes they can confirm your identity without requiring additional steps.

Wait, so they can just randomly decide you need to verify, then randomly decide you don't? I'm surprised by how inconsistent this seems. Does anyone know what triggers these verifications in the first place?

I feel like I should share this - I went through something similar last year. Was told I needed to verify, then got a letter saying I didn't need to anymore. I was honestly terrified that something was wrong! But my refund showed up about 10 days after that call. The emotional rollercoaster with the IRS is just too much sometimes...

I had my ID verification requirement reversed on March 12th and received my DDD exactly 9 days later on March 21st. My transcript updated overnight between the 20th and 21st. If your timeline follows mine, you should see movement soon. I needed that money for a big payment due April 1st, so I was checking hourly!

This ID verification nonsense is getting ridiculous. Last year they made me verify, then I had to verify AGAIN this year, and now they're just randomly deciding people don't need to verify? 😂 The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing over there. I used taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze my transcript after a similar situation and it explained that the reversal usually means they've found another way to verify your identity through their systems. The tool showed me exactly what my transcript codes meant and predicted my DDD would be 7-10 days after the reversal. Sure enough, I got my money 8 days later.

Are you sure that tool actually provides accurate information? The IRS systems are notoriously complex, and I'm skeptical that any third-party service can reliably predict exact deposit dates or interpret internal IRS decisions.

I appreciate you sharing this resource. • Been looking for something to help interpret my transcript • Tired of guessing what all those codes mean • Will definitely check it out if my verification gets reversed too

Does taxr.ai work for all types of tax situations? My spouse and I filed jointly, claimed two dependents, and have some self-employment income. Would it still be able to interpret our transcript accurately?

I went through this EXACT same thing two weeks ago. Isn't it bizarre how they can just flip a switch and suddenly decide you don't need verification? I was initially flagged for ID verification, called multiple times trying to complete it, then suddenly an agent tells me "oh, you don't need to verify anymore." My transcript updated with a DDD exactly 9 days after that call. The codes went from 570 (hold) to 571 (release) to 846 (refund issued) in that order. Have you been able to access your transcript to see if there's any movement yet?

I tracked my timeline precisely after my verification reversal. It took exactly 216 hours (9 days) from reversal to DDD appearing on my transcript. The deposit hit my bank account 48 hours after that. I'm really impressed with the detailed knowledge in this thread - much more helpful than what I got from calling the IRS directly!

I'm going to check my transcript again tomorrow morning. Last I looked it still had the 570 code from March 18th. Based on what you're saying, I should be looking for a 571 code next, right? Appreciate all the insights here.

I've seen this happen several times this tax season. The IRS implemented new automated verification systems that sometimes flag returns unnecessarily. When they review these cases, they often reverse the verification requirement. I tried calling the IRS for 3 days straight to get clarity on this for a client and couldn't get through. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to connect with an agent who confirmed this is happening frequently. The agent explained that after a reversal, most refunds are processed within 2 weeks. Saved me hours of redial frustration.

Be careful here. Under Internal Revenue Manual section 21.1.3.2.4, a reversal of identity verification requirements doesn't always mean processing will continue normally. According to the IRM, if the reversal was due to a "System Automated Determination" rather than manual review, your return may still be subject to additional review under different criteria. In my experience working with tax issues, about 60% of verification reversals proceed to normal processing, while 40% get routed to other verification paths. I'd recommend continuing to monitor your transcript daily for any new transaction codes.

Do you know if there's any way to tell which type of reversal happened in my case? The agent didn't specify if it was automated or manual. Should I call back and ask specifically?

Also, are there specific codes I should be watching for that might indicate I'm in that 40% that gets routed to other verification paths?

This reminds me of what happened to me in 2022. I had a verification requirement reversed, and it took exactly 12 days after that to get my DDD. The concerning part is that this seems to be happening more frequently now. Back then it was rare, but I'm seeing more posts about this issue this year. Makes me wonder if the IRS is having trouble with their verification systems or if identity theft attempts have increased, causing them to be more cautious initially but then backing off when they realize most are legitimate returns.

I went through this exact scenario three weeks ago. Here's what happened step by step: 1. Filed my return on February 10th 2. Got letter about ID verification on March 1st 3. Called IRS on March 5th, was told verification was reversed 4. Transcript updated with code 571 on March 10th 5. DDD appeared on transcript on March 12th 6. Money in my account on March 14th Total time from being told verification was reversed to money in account: 9 days. Hope this helps set your expectations!

Word of caution: I had this happen last year and thought everything was fine, but then my return got flagged for a different issue two weeks later. The reversal of ID verification doesn't guarantee smooth sailing. In my case, they reversed the verification but then selected my return for a random review of education credits. This added another 45 days to my processing time. Not trying to worry you, but just be aware that one hurdle cleared doesn't mean you're completely in the clear. The IRS has multiple layers of review that operate independently.
