Has Anyone in NC Received Their State Tax Refund Yet?
Working remotely has been great but I'm still figuring out all the tax implications. I filed my NC state return about 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting on my refund. Has anyone in North Carolina received their state refund check yet? I was counting on it for some bills this month. And does anyone know if the processing time is different for e-file versus paper filing? I'm trying to learn more about the whole process for next year.

I'm in NC too and still waiting on mine. Filed electronically on Feb 15th and nothing yet. Status just says "processing" when I check online. Anyone know if there's like a typical timeframe for NC refunds? Seems like it's taking forever this yr...

According to the NC DOR website (https://www.ncdor.gov/refund-status), electronic returns are typically processed within 2-3 weeks, while paper returns take 8-12 weeks. I filed mine electronically on March 5th and just got my direct deposit yesterday, so they're definitely moving through them!

I've possibly seen a pattern where returns filed in early February seem to take a bit longer than those filed in March, at least in my experience. It might be related to the verification processes they run on early filers, though I'm not entirely sure about that.

Has anyone had their refund delayed because of the Child Tax Credit? According to NC General Statute ยง105-153.10, taxpayers who claimed certain credits may experience additional processing time. I was worried about this, but finally got my refund yesterday after filing on February 10th. Such a relief!

NC refunds are taking longer this year. Period. The state doesn't give you much information on their website, which is frustrating. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript after waiting 6 weeks with no updates. It showed my return was flagged for identity verification - something the state website never mentioned. Once I knew that, I could take action instead of just waiting.

Wait, you can use that for state taxes too? I thought it was just for federal returns. My NC refund is exactly $1,247 and I've been waiting for 32 days now. I'm surprised there's actually a tool that can tell you what's happening with state returns!

Last year my NC refund was delayed by almost 2 months. When I finally called, they said my return had been pulled for manual review due to a mismatch between my reported W-2 income and what my employer submitted. This year I triple-checked everything and my refund came through in 18 days. The verification process seems much more aggressive than it was pre-2020.

Compared to other states I've lived in, NC is usually pretty decent with refund timing, but this year seems slower. If you're really concerned, you could try calling the NC DOR, but good luck getting through! I spent 4 hours on hold last week before giving up. I ended up using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to connect with an agent - they called me back when they reached someone. Found out my return was delayed because I had moved counties within NC during the tax year.

Isn't it crazy that we need to pay a third party just to talk to the government agencies our taxes fund? Shouldn't the NC DOR have enough staff to handle calls during tax season? That said... did Claimyr actually work well for a state tax agency? I thought they only worked for federal IRS calls.

I've used Claimyr for both IRS and state tax departments (haha, tax nerd problems ๐ค). Works like a charm for NC! Saved me approximately 3.5 hours of hold time last month when I had questions about a business tax filing. The trick is to call during mid-week, mid-afternoon when their call volumes are typically lower.

I'm so tired of people complaining about NC refund times without understanding how the system works! The DOR processes MILLIONS of returns in a few months with limited staff. They've actually improved processing times significantly over the last 5 years. I've tracked my refund timing since 2018, and despite what everyone feels, the average processing time has decreased from 31 days to 24 days for electronic filers. Just be patient - your money is coming!
