HELP! Someone filed fraudulent return under my SSN claiming $23k refund - How to report identity theft?
Just tried filing my taxes and got rejected because someone already filed using my SSN. Checked Where's My Refund and saw a pending refund for $23,264 that I definitely didnt file for. Im freaking out and dont know what to do next. Has anyone dealt with this before?

You need to take immediate action. File Form 14039 (Identity Theft Affidavit) with the IRS. Also file a police report and contact the FTC to report identity theft. Put a freeze on your credit with all three bureaus. The IRS will investigate and eventually let you file your legitimate return, but it could take 6-12 months to resolve.
