Got 846 Code with 2/24 DDD - Chime Users Check In - When Will Funds Actually Hit?
Just checked my transcript this morning and finally got that 846 code with a DDD of 2/24. Anyone else with Chime banking in the same boat? Seems like we're getting close, but can we really trust these dates? I've got bills stacking up while juggling the kids' activities all week... wondering if the money will actually hit accounts early like Chime usually claims? Or is the IRS going to make us wait until the exact date regardless of bank policies?

In my experience, Chime typically deposits IRS refunds up to 2 days earlier than the official DDD in most cases. The 846 code is generally quite reliable as it indicates the refund has been approved and scheduled. However, it's worth noting that sometimes the IRS sends the payment file to banks in batches, which might affect exactly when Chime receives and processes it. I'd say there's a good possibility you'll see it by the 22nd or 23rd, assuming there are no other complications.

I was in exactly the same situation last week with my 846 code. Much better than last year when I was stuck with a 570 for weeks! I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained that the 846 means my refund was already in the disbursement phase. Compared to the IRS website explanations, it was way clearer about the timing. The site even showed me that Chime deposits typically come 1-2 days before the DDD based on thousands of other user reports. Mine hit exactly 36 hours before the official date.

Another tax transcript tool?! I'm so tired of getting my hopes up with these things! Does it actually work or is it just another way to get our info?

I checked it out on February 15th after seeing someone else mention it. It doesn't ask for sensitive info - just needs you to upload your transcript. Explained my codes better than the IRS site did, honestly. Said my refund would hit February 21st and it came that morning.

Wait, you don't have to put in your SSN or anything? Lol I've been avoiding all these tools thinking they were just data mining operations. Might actually be useful for my complicated return this year 😂

Don't waste your time calling the IRS about this. They'll just tell you to wait until after your DDD passes. I tried calling 14 times last year when my refund didn't show up on the DDD. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in 20 minutes. Turns out my bank had rejected the deposit because the name format was slightly different. The agent fixed it right there and I had my money 2 days later.

Got my 846 last Thursday. DDD was 2/21. Chime deposited early. Monday morning at 9am. Two days early. Worth the wait. No delays or issues. Exactly what transcript showed. Hang in there.

This is exactly what I needed to hear! My DDD is for tomorrow, so I'm checking my Chime account literally every hour. Did you get any notification from Chime before it hit, or did it just appear in your account suddenly?

Just a heads up - had a similar situation last yr w/ Chime & 846 code. Money DIDN'T come early bc my refund had an offset I didn't know about. IRS took part of it for an old student loan. DDD was meaningless bc they adjusted the amt. Had to wait another week to get what was left. Triple check ur transcript for any codes like 898 which might indicate this!

How can you tell if there's an offset on your transcript? I'm looking at mine right now and I see the 846 code with my full refund amount, but I'm worried because I do have some old debts. Is there a specific place I should be checking on the transcript?

TC 898 specifically indicates a refund offset. You'll also want to look for TC 896 (interest on refund) or TC 897 (refund part used to pay tax). Most importantly, compare the amount next to your 846 code with the refund amount you calculated on your return. Any discrepancy suggests an adjustment or offset?

According to IRS Publication 2043 and Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, the 846 code (Refund Issued) indicates that the refund has been approved and scheduled for direct deposit. While the DDD is the official date, financial institutions offering early deposit features like Chime are permitted to advance funds to customers once they receive the payment file from the Treasury's Bureau of Fiscal Service, which typically occurs 1-2 business days before the official DDD.

I think I might be in a similar situation as you... I got my 846 code yesterday with a 2/26 date. I'm with Chime too, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much about it coming early. Last year I had a 2/15 date and it didn't hit until exactly that day, even though others with Chime got theirs early. Maybe it depends on when in the day the IRS actually sends the file? I'm just trying to be patient and assume it'll come on the actual date so I don't drive myself crazy checking my account.
