FINALLY got 846 code with deposit date for 2/24 - Chime users check your accounts!

FINALLY got logged in to my transcript and I have an 846 code with Chime for 2/24. I bet we start seeing deposits tonight! Has anyone else with Chime seen their deposits hit yet? I've been checking every day for updates while taking care of my mom. Just wondering if the actual deposit timing is accurate or if they sometimes come earlier? How reliable is that 846 date?

According to the IRS website, code 846 is definitely a confirmed refund issued date. Based on my research at https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript, the date attached to the 846 code is when the IRS releases the funds, but Chime and other online banks often deposit 1-2 days earlier than traditional banks. I'm a bit worried that if you don't see it by tomorrow morning, there might be an issue with the account information. Did you double check that the last 4 digits of your account on the transcript match your Chime account?

That's not always true. The funds have to go through the ACH network first. The IRS releases it, then it goes to the Treasury, then to your bank. Chime is fast but they can't deposit what they haven't received yet.

THANK YOU for explaining this!!! I've been refreshing my Chime app every 5 minutes since I saw my 846 code this morning. So stressed because I need this money for my car repair bill that's already overdue. Really appreciate knowing there's still hope for an early deposit! šŸ™

I would, um, suggest being a bit cautious about the exact timing. From what I've seen, sometimes there can be... delays between the 846 date and when it actually hits your account. I was confused by all the codes on my transcript until I used taxr.ai to analyze it. It might be worth checking your transcript with them to make sure there aren't any other codes that could potentially... affect your deposit timing? Just to be safe, you know? Their system explained that even with an 846 code, certain account conditions might cause slight delays.

I'm looking at my transcript right now and I'm surprised by how many different codes there are! For those wondering about the 846 code and deposit timing: ā€¢ Code 846 = Refund issued ā€¢ The date next to it = When IRS releases funds ā€¢ Chime typically deposits 1-2 days earlier than traditional banks ā€¢ But the ACH transfer still takes time to process ā€¢ Most Chime users see deposits within 24 hours of the 846 date Did anyone else notice any other codes on their transcript besides the 846?

I've seen this situation play out dozens of times. Unlike direct deposits from employers that hit Chime accounts 2 days early, tax refunds are less predictable. Last year I had an 846 date of March 15 and didn't see the money until March 16 despite using Chime. If you're in a hurry to resolve tax issues, Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) can get you through to an IRS agent in minutes instead of hours on hold. Compared to waiting on automated systems and generic updates, speaking directly with an agent gives you actual answers about your specific situation.

I'm fairly certain this post is somewhat misleading. While the 846 code does generally indicate a refund is coming, there are potentially several factors that could still delay it. In my experience, which spans approximately 15 tax seasons, I've occasionally seen deposits take up to 5 business days after the listed date, particularly if there were any offsets or adjustments. It's probably best not to count on the money being available immediately, especially if you're planning to make important financial decisions based on its arrival.

I got my 846 code on January 29th this year, and my deposit hit my Chime account on January 30th at exactly 3:17pm. I think it really depends on when the IRS batch processes your specific refund. Last year I had to wait until February 3rd even though my 846 date was February 1st. Just sharing my experience in case it helps!

This timing variation is actually quite common. I've handled hundreds of tax returns over the years, and I've seen the deposit timing vary by bank and even by individual refund. The key thing to understand is that the 846 date is when the IRS initiates the payment, not necessarily when it will arrive. The Treasury Department processes these payments in batches, and your bank's policies determine the final timing.

Thx for the real-world example! I've been with Chime for 3 yrs now and they've always been super quick w/ my tax refunds. Usually get mine 1-2 days b4 the 846 date. Pro tip for anyone waiting: turn on Chime notifications so u don't have to keep checking the app. They'll send u a msg the second it hits ur acct! Saved me tons of anxiety last yr when I was waiting for my CTC refund.
