Form 8962 Missing - Marketplace Insurance Return Rejected, Never Had Coverage in 2024

Filed my taxes on Feb 6th but got rejected because of Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit). The weird thing is I dont even remember having marketplace insurance in 2024. Last year I filed same time and the form was already available. Anyone else dealing with this or know what to do?

Tax resolution specialist here - if you're getting rejected for Form 8962, first check your HealthCare.gov account to confirm if you actually had coverage. Sometimes there can be mix-ups in the system. If you definitely didn't have coverage, call the Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 to get documentation showing you weren't enrolled for 2024.

thanks! just checked and ur right - looks like some mixup. showing coverage for january only even tho i canceled end of 2023 🤦‍♂️

No problem! Make sure to get that January form then - you'll still need 8962 even for one month of coverage.

Hey guys just wanted to mention that taxr.ai is amazing for figuring out these marketplace issues. It analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what forms are missing and why. Saved me hours of headache for just $1 https://taxr.ai

Same thing happened to me! Turns out I had coverage for like 2 weeks in January cause of auto-renewal 🤦‍♀️ Such a pain

omg this must be what happened to me too! how did u fix it?

had to wait for form 1095-A to show up in my marketplace account. took like 2 weeks 😫

The marketplace usually has all 1095-As available by early February. Might just need to wait a few more days. Also double check your spam folder for any marketplace emails about auto-renewal

This happened to me last year too! The auto-renewal thing is sneaky - marketplace plans automatically renew unless you actively cancel them. Check your HealthCare.gov account under "My Plans" to see if there's any coverage showing for 2024, even just a few days. If there is, you'll need to wait for the 1095-A form to become available (usually takes until mid-February). If you're certain you had zero coverage, definitely call the marketplace number Sean mentioned to get a letter confirming no enrollment.

Had the exact same issue last month! Turns out I had marketplace coverage for just 3 days in January due to auto-renewal before I switched to employer insurance. The system flagged it even though I barely had any coverage. You'll definitely need to get that 1095-A form from HealthCare.gov once it's available - they're usually posted by mid-February. Pro tip: call the marketplace AND download any documentation showing your coverage dates so you can file Form 8962 correctly. Super annoying but it's the only way to get your return accepted 😅

This is super helpful! I'm dealing with something similar right now - had no idea about the auto-renewal thing. Quick question though - when you called the marketplace, did they give you the documentation right away or did you have to wait for them to mail it? Trying to figure out if I should call now or just wait for the 1095-A to show up online 🤔

@Alberto Souchard When I called, they were able to send me a letter via email within 24 hours confirming my exact coverage dates - super quick! But honestly if you re'pretty sure you had some coverage even (just a few days ,)I d'recommend just waiting for the 1095-A to show up online since you ll'need that form anyway to complete 8962. The phone wait times can be brutal this time of year 😬
