Finally got my DDD for 2/15 - Filed on Jan 20, accepted Jan 21 with EITC
Finally got my DDD (direct deposit date) for 2/15. Filed on Jan 20, was accepted Jan 21st, had EITC and updated around 3 am to a DDD. Also using the Intuit turbo card for my deposit. Working remotely means I really need this money for my home office setup upgrades, so glad to see movement finally.

This is fairly typical timing for EITC returns. Think of tax processing like a highway with different lanes - standard returns zip through the express lane, while credit-claiming returns like yours take the verification lane which has more checkpoints. Your 25-day processing window is actually right on schedule. The IRS often batches EITC updates overnight (hence your 3am update), and Turbo Card deposits typically appear 1-2 days before the official DDD, so keep an eye on your account.

Is it normal to feel this relieved when you finally see that DDD? I was checking WMR twice daily for weeks! My transcript was completely empty until suddenly everything appeared at once. Does anyone know why they can't just show partial progress as they go?

Wait, so if I have EITC on my return, does that automatically put me in a slower processing category according to IRS Publication 17? I've been waiting since January 25th with no updates at all.

Last year my DDD showed up at 2am exactly and I had the money by noon the same day - way before the actual date. Intuit seems to release as soon as they get the funds rather than waiting for the official date. Check your account ASAP!

I'm in the exact same boat and just got my DDD too. Here's what worked for me: 1. Filed Jan 19, accepted Jan 20 2. WMR showed one bar for 3 weeks 3. Transcript updated first with 570 code 4. Finally got 846 code yesterday 5. Money hit my account THIS MORNING! I was stressing because I need this money for car repairs. The wait is brutal but at least the system is moving.

I just got my DDD for 2/16 yesterday. Filed Jan 24, accepted same day. Also had EITC. My transcript updated around midnight and I got the email notification at 2am. Used my Turbo Card last year and got the money a day early. Planning to use the refund to beef up my emergency fund since remote work can be unpredictable.

Has anyone tried calling the IRS about their refund status? I was stuck with no updates for weeks and finally used Claimyr to get through to an agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). They connected me to an actual person in 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own! The agent confirmed my return was just waiting for final review and would be processed within 48 hours. Sure enough, I got my DDD the next day. How did you track your updates before getting your DDD?

It's probably worth mentioning that the Turbo Card, while convenient, may not always be the most financially advantageous option for everyone. Their fee structure can sometimes include charges that might reduce your overall refund amount. Additionally, there have been some reports, though not widespread, of delays with prepaid cards compared to direct deposits to established bank accounts. It may be worth evaluating whether the convenience outweighs potential drawbacks in your particular financial situation.

I've used both regular bank deposit and the Turbo Card. With my credit union, I actually got the money faster than friends with the Turbo Card last year. This year I'm trying the card to compare. Has anyone else noticed differences between the two methods?

Totally agree w/ this! I used Turbo Card last yr & got hit w/ unexpected fees. This yr I switched to direct deposit to my CU acct. The peace of mind knowing exactly when $ will arrive w/o surprise fees is worth the extra day or 2 IMO. Always read the fine print on those cards!

Just to clarify a common misconception: The DDD (Direct Deposit Date) shown on your transcript with code 846 is the date the IRS releases funds to your financial institution, not necessarily when you'll see it in your account. Financial institutions like Intuit with the Turbo Card often process these payments early as a customer benefit, but they're not required to. The PATH Act requires the IRS to hold EITC/ACTC refunds until February 15th, but once released, the standard ACH processing window is 1-3 business days.

Be careful with those prepaid cards. According to multiple posts on r/tax and the IRS subreddit, some people have had their accounts temporarily frozen when large deposits hit. The anti-fraud systems can sometimes flag tax refunds as suspicious transactions. I'd recommend checking your Turbo Card app daily and having their customer service number handy just in case. Nothing worse than seeing your money is there but not being able to access it.
