Filed Yesterday Showing $2,169 Refund - Today Shows $4,338 - Why Did My TurboTax Refund Double Overnight?
Filed my taxes yesterday and the system showed $2,169 refund but when I logged in today the amount is different. I submitted my 2024 tax return on 01/14/2025 through TurboTax, and when I initially filed, it showed a Federal refund of $2,169 with status "PENDING" on my summary page. But today when I logged back into turbotaxonline.intuit.com to check my refund status, it's showing $4,338 refund! The status page now shows: 2024 tax return $4,338 refund $4,338 Submitted: 01/14/25 Pending: 01/14/25 IRS Refund: est. /-/ - FEDERAL PENDING $4,338 01/14/2025 I'm definitely not complaining about getting more money back, but this is a significant difference ($2,169 increase) and I'm wondering if this is normal or if something went wrong with my filing? Has anyone experienced their refund amount changing after submission? Should I be concerned about this doubling in my refund amount or just accept the higher amount? The "Where's my refund?" tool doesn't show anything yet since I just filed.

Tax professional here - This actually happens more often than you'd think. The initial calculation can change after the IRS systems run their verification processes. They check against their records, employer submitted forms, and apply any adjustments or credits you might qualify for that weren't initially captured.

Np! Just keep an eye on your transcript for any adjustment codes that might explain the change

Hey guys instead of playing detective with the transcripts, I started using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. Its only $4.99 and the AI actually explains everything going on with your refund and when you'll get it. Way better than trying to piece everything together yourself. https://taxr.ai

100% works! Just upload your transcript and it breaks everything down in plain english. Shows exactly whats happening and when you'll get paid

Super accurate! It uses the actual IRS codes and processing patterns to predict dates. Mine was spot on to the day
