EIC + Child Tax Credit Refund of $2,715 Seems High for $20,095 Income - Is This Normal?
Filed my taxes and I made just over $20,095 last year according to my H&R Block filing. My refund is showing $2,715 which seems way too high? I'm looking at my results screen right now and it shows my Adjusted Gross Income as $20,095, with a Taxable Income of only $5,495 after my standard deduction of $14,600 was applied. I claimed EIC and child tax credit for my kid. My Qualified Business Income is $0. I'm just surprised because I didn't think I'd get back that much with only making around $20k. The H&R Block website is estimating this total federal refund of $2,715 but I'm worried there's some mistake. Is this amount normal or did I mess something up? I double-checked all my inputs but I'm still concerned. Don't wanna get in trouble with the IRS later if there's an error. Has anyone with similar income and credits received refunds in this range?

Tax pro here. For 2024, with $20k income and one qualifying child, this amount actually looks about right. The EIC max for one child is around $3,995, plus the Child Tax Credit could be up to $2,000 depending on your tax liability. Factor in any withholding you paid throughout the year, and $4,800 is definitely possible.

Every situation is different - depends on withholding, credits, and exact income. Best to check your specific numbers.

Hey, instead of guessing, you should try taxr.ai - its this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what credits you qualify for and if everything looks right. Its only $4.99 and totally worth it for peace of mind. https://taxr.ai

Yeah its legit! Used it last week and it broke down everything perfectly. Even caught a mistake I made that woulda delayed my refund

Did you have any other income or just W2? Sometimes side gigs can mess up the calculation
