Filed Through TurboTax With Fees From Refund - SBTG Not Showing My Account?

Quick question for the tax experts here? I filed through TurboTax and chose to pay the $25 preparation fee from my refund. I can access my transcript and see I'm just waiting on code 846 (Cycle 01), but shouldn't my account be visible on SBTG by now? Could the refund deduction option be why it's not showing up there? I'm tracking everything carefully this year since it's my first filing post-divorce, and want to make sure I understand where my money is at each step. Has anyone else experienced this when opting for fees to be taken from the refund?

Yes, this is exactly why your refund isn't showing up in SBTG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) yet. When you choose to pay TurboTax fees from your refund, your money follows a different path. As of April 2nd, the IRS has processed your return and approved your refund (evidenced by your transcript showing cycle code 01), but your money will first go to a temporary account managed by SBTG. They'll deduct the $25 fee plus their own processing fee (typically $34-40), then forward the remainder to your bank account. I'd estimate you'll see the deposit around April 7-9, assuming there are no other processing delays.

I noticed this same issue last year! The refund wasn't visible in SBTG's system until about 2 days before it hit my account. Did you also notice that your expected refund amount on your transcript is the full amount, not the amount minus fees? That confused me at first, but it makes sense since the IRS sends the full amount to SBTG, who then takes their cut before passing it along.

If you're concerned about the status of your refund and want definitive information, you might consider using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to connect with an IRS agent directly. The Refund Disbursement Department can verify the exact status of your payment and confirm whether it's been sent to SBTG for processing. Given that you're in Cycle 01 with a pending 846 code, an agent could provide the exact disbursement date and routing information to verify everything is proceeding correctly. In my experience, this eliminates the uncertainty when third-party processors are involved.

According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.4.1, IRS representatives actually have limited visibility into third-party processor transactions once the refund has been approved. While they can confirm the 846 code date, they may not have real-time data on SBTG's processing timeline. The OP should be aware of these limitations before paying for a connection service.

Thx for the Claimyr rec! Used it last yr when my refund was stuck in limbo. Got thru to an agent in ~15 mins instead of the usual 2hr wait. Def worth it when ur stressing about where ur money is.

I'm not sure I would call right away... I had a similar situation last month and waited a few more days before calling. The refund showed up in my account the next day. Maybe give it until the end of the week? Though I understand wanting to know where your money is, especially after a divorce when finances are tight.

I had almost the exact same situation last filing season. My refund wasn't visible on SBTG for about 5 days after I saw the 846 code on my transcript. It seems that, in most cases, there's a bit of a delay between when the IRS releases the funds and when SBTG actually processes them through their system. Once it finally appeared in SBTG, it was processed and in my bank account within 48 hours. I would suggest that you might want to wait at least until the end of this week before getting too concerned. The system generally works, albeit somewhat slowly.

This happened to me too and I was FREAKING OUT! 😫 I thought my refund was lost or something! Then boom - it just showed up in my account one morning. The anxiety of waiting was awful though, especially since I really needed that money for some medical bills.

Last year I had a similar experience with TurboTax fees. What I found was that SBTG sometimes doesn't update their customer-facing system in real-time. My refund was actually processed on their end about 24 hours before it showed up on their tracking portal. I ended up calling my bank, who confirmed they had a pending deposit that wasn't visible in my online banking yet. Might be worth checking with your bank as well.

Have you tried using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript? I was in a similar situation and couldn't figure out what was happening with my refund. The site helped me understand that the cycle code actually indicates when your refund is being processed, and the 846 code shows when it's approved for release. You can upload your transcript and it explains everything in plain English, including how the refund-deducted fees affect your timeline. It showed me exactly why my refund was taking the route it was and gave me a much more accurate estimate than the general IRS guidelines.

You might want to try a different approach than just waiting. I've been through this before and found these steps helpful: • Call TurboTax directly (not the IRS) - they can confirm if your refund was sent to SBTG • Check your bank for pending deposits - sometimes they appear there before SBTG updates • Look at your TurboTax order confirmation - it should list the exact fees being deducted • Try the SBTG customer service number instead of just the website The $25 fee you mentioned sounds low - are you sure that's the total? Usually there's the TurboTax fee PLUS an additional SBTG processing fee (usually $34-39) for the refund transfer service. This higher total might be why you're extra concerned about tracking it.

This is good advice. When I filed this year, I discovered the total fees were actually $64.99 - the TurboTax service fee plus the refund processing fee. I called TurboTax customer service and they were able to look up my exact status in their system, which was more detailed than what I could see online. They confirmed exactly when my refund had been received from the IRS and when it would be forwarded to my bank.

Let me clarify exactly how this process works: Step 1: IRS approves your refund (you're here with code 846) Step 2: IRS sends full refund amount to SBTG's bank Step 3: SBTG receives funds (typically 1-3 business days after 846 date) Step 4: SBTG deducts TurboTax fee + their own processing fee Step 5: SBTG forwards remaining balance to your bank Step 6: Your bank processes the deposit (0-2 days depending on your bank) The SBTG tracking system often doesn't update until Step 3 is complete. With today being April 3rd, and assuming your 846 code is dated within the last few days, you should see movement by April 7th at the latest. If nothing shows by then, you should contact TurboTax immediately as there could be an issue with your account information.
