Filed January 8th - IRS Shows "Not Processed" After Two Weeks - CTC Refund & PIN Concerns

I filed on January 8th with child tax credits and now I'm totally confused about what's happening. Looking at my transcript but can't make sense of it. Starting to think my tax preparer didn't put in my PIN number correctly. I just checked my IRS account online at sa.www4.irs.gov (at 4:08) and it's showing "Your 2024 Tax Return Is Not Processed" even though I filed over two weeks ago. The status message says "If you've already filed Read more" but doesn't give me any other information. My account does show "Total Amount Owed as of January 25, 2025: $0.00" and there's a "View Balance Details" option and a "MAKE A PAYMENT" button, but I shouldn't need to make any payment since I'm expecting a refund with my child tax credits. The IRS page also has this warning about scams saying "If you got an unexpected call, text, email, social media message or in-person visit, it's not us. Protect yourself from scams. In almost all cases, our first contact is through regular mail delivered by the United States Postal Service. View your mail from the IRS. In extremely rare circumstances, our first contact may be an in-person visit. Learn how to tell if it's us." Has anyone else experienced this "Not Processed" status this long after filing? Could my PIN really be the issue? I'm worried because I'm counting on that refund. What should my next steps be? Should I contact my tax preparer or wait longer?

Tax professional here! First things first, don't panic. A missing PIN can cause delays but it's fixable. The IRS should have sent you a notice if there's a PIN issue. Have you received any letters from them? Also, check your transcript for code 570 or 971 which might indicate this problem.

Give it about 2 weeks. If nothing by then, definitely call. Make sure you have your transcript handy when you do 📞

hey! instead of trying to decode everything yourself, you should try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and when you'll likely get paid. Its only $4.99 and saved me hours of research and stress https://taxr.ai

Check your Where's My Refund status. If it says still processing, might be the PIN issue. My preparer forgot mine last year and it was a whole thing 🤦‍♂️
