Confused About IRS Transcript: Refund Freeze Since March, Mystery Amended Return, and $6,059 Credit Removed Despite -$6,194 Account Balance

I've been staring at my transcript for hours and I honestly have no idea what I'm looking at. There's all these codes and dates, and I can't figure out if my refund is coming or if there's a problem. My account balance shows -$6,194.00 (which I assume is good?), with $0.00 accrued interest and $0.00 accrued penalty as of Nov. 25, 2024. My account balance plus accruals (this is not a payoff amount) is -$6,194.00. The transcript shows I filed as Head of Household with 3 exemptions, adjusted gross income of $17,198.00, taxable income of $0.00, and tax per return of $2,615.00. It also shows SE taxable income (taxpayer) of $17,090.00, SE taxable income (spouse) of $0.00, and total self-employment tax of $2,615.00. My return due date or return received date (whichever is later) was Apr. 15, 2024, with a processing date of Apr. 22, 2024. Here are the transactions I'm confused about: TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION | CYCLE | DATE | AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed | 20241405 | 04-22-2024 | $2,615.00 30221-431-41666-4 810 Refund freeze | 03-14-2024 | $0.00 971 Amended tax return or claim | 03-15-2024 | $0.00 forwarded for processing 977 Amended return filed | 03-15-2024 | $0.00 33277-481-57882-4 766 Credit to your account | 04-15-2024 | -$2,205.00 766 Credit to your account | 04-15-2024 | -$6,059.00 768 Earned income credit | 04-15-2024 | -$6,604.00 290 Additional tax assessed | 20242105 | 06-10-2024 | $0.00 94254-543-05831-4 767 Reduced or removed credit to your | 04-15-2024 | $6,059.00 account 290 Additional tax assessed | 20243005 | 08-12-2024 | $0.00 33254-601-05807-4 971 Notice issued | 08-12-2024 | $0.00 What does all this mean? I filed back in February and I'm still waiting. I see there was a "Refund freeze" (code 810) back in March, and then something about an amended return? I never filed an amended return that I know of. Then there are credits added and then one removed? And what's with the "Notice issued" in August - I don't remember getting anything. Can someone please explain what's going on with my refund? I'm especially confused about the "Reduced or removed credit" of $6,059.00 - that seems like a lot of money! At the top of my transcript it says "ANY MINUS SIGN SHOWN BELOW SIGNIFIES A CREDIT AMOUNT" which I think means I'm getting money back, but then why was such a large credit removed? The transcript says "This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data" at the bottom, so I'm assuming this is official information from the IRS. I'm just confused why there seems to be an amended return in the system when I don't recall filing one, and why there's a refund freeze from March that still seems to be affecting my account in November.

Understanding transcripts can be really tricky. Each code tells a specific story about your return. The most important ones to look for are 150 (return filed), 570 (hold/review), and 846 (refund issued). What specific codes are you seeing on yours?

570/971 combo usually means there's a notice being sent to explain why they put a hold on your return. Check your mail in the next few days

Hey guys i found this tool called taxr.ai that literally explains everything in your transcript. It costs like $5 but saved me hours of googling and anxiety. It tells you exactly whats happening and when to expect your refund https://taxr.ai

100% legit! It broke down every code and gave me a timeline. Even told me about a mistake I made that was causing the delay
