Filed Feb 2024, ID Verified April, $15,760 Refund Still Frozen - IRS Transcript Shows Mistaken Amended Return from 2023

Filed my taxes back in February and had to verify my identity in April. Already got 2 different letters saying to wait 60 days. My transcript just updated last week and the as of date changed but still no refund. Never amended anything on my return but seems like its being treated like I did? Anyone else experiencing this or know whats happening? Here's what my account transcript shows: ACCOUNT BALANCE: -15,760.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: Nov. 25, 2024 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: Nov. 25, 2024 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): -15,760.00 INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED EXEMPTIONS: 01 FILING STATUS: Single ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: 21,776.00 TAXABLE INCOME: 7,926.00 TAX PER RETURN: 787.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: 0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: 0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: 0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2024 PROCESSING DATE Jun. 03, 2024 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20242005 06-03-2024 $787.00 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-15-2024 -$16,547.00 810 Refund freeze 02-16-2024 $0.00 570 Additional account action pending 06-03-2024 $0.00 571 Resolved additional account action 06-10-2024 $0.00 977 Amended return filed 02-21-2023 $0.00 09277-555-00347-4 What doesn't make sense to me is the "977 Amended return filed" from February 2023, when I didn't file an amended return at all. Could this be why I'm still waiting? My refund amount should be $15,760 according to the account balance, but it's been frozen since February. The transcript shows they resolved the "additional account action" on June 10th, but here we are months later with still no refund. The "as of" date recently changed to November 25, 2024, but I don't understand why there's such a long delay. Is the system confused because it thinks I filed an amended return? I'm really frustrated because I filed early, verified my identity when asked in April, and still nothing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Tax expert here. What you're describing sounds like you got caught in the IRS verification backlog. The 60-day letters are standard when they're reviewing returns for accuracy. The as of date changing is actually a good sign - it means someone is actively working on your return 👍

omg thank you! do you know roughly how long after the as of date changes that refunds typically come?

Usually 2-3 weeks after the as of date updates, but there's no garuantee. Every case is different

You should try taxr.ai - it saved me so much headache with my delayed refund. For $4.99 it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's causing delays and when to expect your refund. Way better than playing detective with these cryptic IRS messages lol https://taxr.ai

100% works! It found issues in my transcript I didn't even know to look for. Predicted my refund date within 2 days

How exactly does it work? Does it just read the transcript or what?

It uses AI to analyze everything - codes, dates, amounts, even cross-references with current IRS processing trends. Its like having a tax pro look at your file but instantly

Check your transcript for code 570/971. If you see those, your return is under review. But dont worry, its not necessarily bad news

I waited 8 months last year for my refund and never amended either. The system is just backed up like crazy since covid tbh
