Filed 2/15 - Anyone Have Updated Transcript Codes or WMR Status?

I e-filed my return precisely on February 15, 2024 (32 days ago). My tracking indicates the following status: WMR shows first bar only with message "Return Received, Processing." I've monitored my transcript daily at 06:00 EST with no code changes observed. Current refund amount: $4,782 (standard deduction, mortgage interest on primary residence, property tax deductions). Has anyone who filed on the same date (2/15/24) experienced transcript code updates or WMR movement? If so, please specify which codes appeared and approximate timeline. Thank you in advance for your professional input.

According to IRS Publication 2043, normal processing timeframes for e-filed returns are 21 days, but may be extended during peak filing season. Per Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, returns claiming refunds over $4,000 may be subject to additional verification procedures. Your mortgage interest and property tax deductions are not typically flags for review, but the combination with your refund amount might trigger automated verification. I would advise monitoring your transcript for codes 570/571 (refund hold/release) or 420/421 (examination/closed examination) over the next 7-10 business days.

This is like having a package tracked but stuck at the distribution center - you know it's in the system but not moving. Are there any specific transcript codes that would indicate it's moving to the next phase rather than just sitting in verification?

Oh wow, I didn't realize the $4,000 threshold could trigger additional verification. Mine is $4,356 and I filed 2/17... guess that explains the delay! šŸ˜¬ Should I be worried or is this just standard procedure?

I've seen this exact situation play out three times in the past four tax seasons. The system flags returns over certain thresholds automatically. My transcript sat with no codes for 28 days then suddenly updated with 846 (direct deposit date). Money was in my account two days later. The IRS processing queue operates in batches, so patience is required.

Have you checked if your return might have been affected by the Path Act delays? Even if you didn't claim EITC or ACTC, sometimes returns get caught in those processing batches accidentally. Have you considered pulling your transcripts directly from the IRS website rather than relying solely on WMR? Wouldn't it be more informative to check for the 846 code specifically which indicates a refund has been scheduled? In my experience, WMR updates lag behind transcript updates by 2-3 days.

I've compared both methods across three different tax years, and transcripts definitely show movement before WMR in almost every case. My 2022 return showed processing completion on transcripts a full 5 days before WMR updated to approved status.

I appreciate the suggestion about checking transcripts directly. I've been relying on WMR and getting frustrated, but it makes sense that the transcript would have more detailed information. I'll give that a try tomorrow morning.

Omg I filed EXACTLY on 2/15 too and my WMR is still stuck on the first bar! Checked my transcript this AM and suddenly got hit with a 570 code (refund hold) dated 3/25/24. No letter yet but prob coming next week. From what I've read online, this could be ANYTHING from identity verification to a math error or missing form. Ugh. The IRS systems are so frustrating rn. Def check ur transcript daily bc WMR is useless tbh.

Got 570 last week. Called IRS. Simple math error. Fixed remotely. No amended return needed. 571 appeared three days later. Refund issued yesterday.

I had the exact same thing happen with my 2021 return! The 570 code showed up out of nowhere, and I was freaking out thinking I was being audited. Turns out they just needed to verify my identity because I had moved to a new state. Once I completed the verification, the money hit my account within 10 days. These little hiccups are incredibly common but rarely serious.

I filed on 2/14 and was in the same boat until yesterday when I finally got through to an IRS agent using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). Have you tried calling the IRS directly? I spent 3 days trying to get through on my own with no luck, but Claimyr got me connected in about 25 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was just in a processing queue and nothing was wrong. Apparently there's a huge backlog of returns filed mid-February. Has anyone else had luck getting through to the IRS phone lines recently?

According to the IRS Operations Dashboard (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're currently processing returns received through early February. Mid-February filers are just now entering the main processing queue. I've been tracking several tax forums and Reddit threads, and it seems 2/15 filers are just starting to see movement this week. Instead of checking WMR, try using the IRS2Go app which sometimes updates faster, or set up text alerts through the IRS website so you don't have to manually check.

I filed exactly on 2/15 as well. Here's what happened with my timeline: 1. Filed 2/15/24 via TurboTax 2. Return accepted 2/15/24 3. WMR showed first bar only until 3/11/24 4. Transcript updated 3/12/24 with codes 150, 806, 766, 768, 570 5. Transcript updated 3/15/24 with 571 and 846 (refund date 3/20/24) 6. WMR updated to approved 3/16/24 The 570 was a temporary hold while they verified something (no letter was ever sent). Total processing time: 33 days from filing to refund date.

I may have some insight that could help... I filed on 2/14 and was in processing limbo until last week. My transcript finally updated with codes 150 and 846. From what I understand, returns filed around mid-February might be experiencing slightly longer processing times due to the high volume of early season filers. It's possible your return is simply in queue and there's nothing wrong with it. I would suggest waiting another week before taking any action, as many 2/15 filers are just now seeing movement in the system.
