Filed 2/1 - WMR Shows Received but Transcripts Say I Haven't Filed?

Filed 2/1. WMR updated 2/2: return received (tax code:152). Transcripts saying I haven't filed?? Is this normal should I be worried? Need my refund for bills. Been checking daily.

This happens more than you'd think. My wife's return showed the same thing last year - WMR said received but transcripts showed nothing for about 3 weeks. It's actually pretty normal during the busy season. The systems don't always sync up right away. As long as you got that acceptance confirmation when you e-filed, you should be good. Mine took 18 days to show up on transcripts last year but my sister's took almost 4 weeks.

Is there a specific timeframe when transcripts typically update? I filed on January 29th and my transcript still shows N/A for 2023, but WMR shows received on January 30th.

Does the tax code 152 mean anything specific? Mine has that too but I can't figure out what it means. • Is it good? • Is it bad? • Does it mean my return is being processed normally? • Or is it flagged for something?

I went through this exact same thing step by step last year! Filed early February, got the WMR update saying received, but transcripts showed nothing for weeks. I called the IRS after 3 weeks of no updates and waited on hold for 2+ hours just to be told it was "still processing" - I had no idea the systems were so disconnected from each other! Eventually everything updated at once and I got my refund about 5 days after my transcript finally appeared.

I would advise not to worry just yet. The IRS processing systems and transcript databases don't always update simultaneously. It's possible, though I can't say with absolute certainty, that your return is in the processing queue but hasn't been fully integrated into the transcript system. This discrepancy tends to resolve itself within 2-3 weeks for most filers. If you want to understand what's happening with your specific tax situation better, I've found https://taxr.ai to be quite helpful. It can analyze your WMR status and explain what code 152 means specifically for your situation, even before your transcript updates. Many of my clients have found it gives them peace of mind during this waiting period.

According to several IRS forums I follow, this disconnect between WMR and transcripts is super common right now. If you need to talk to an actual IRS agent to confirm everything's okay (which I totally get - waiting is the worst!), check out https://claimyr.com - it's been a game-changer for getting through to the IRS. The IRS.gov website says current wait times are 45-90 minutes, but Claimyr got me connected in about 15 minutes when I was worried about a similar issue. The agent confirmed my return was in process despite not showing on transcripts yet. Really appreciated not having to waste my whole day on hold!

Seriously? Another service to pay for something that should be free? 🙄 The IRS phone system sucks, but if you call right when they open you can usually get through. Why pay for something when patience is free? Though I guess if you're really stressed about your refund it might be worth it...

OMG THANK YOU for this recommendation! I just used Claimyr yesterday after trying to call the IRS for THREE DAYS straight with no luck. Got through in 18 minutes and found out my return was just delayed because of a verification step. Such a relief to finally talk to someone instead of checking WMR 20 times a day! 😭

How much does the Claimyr service cost? And do they just call for you or do they somehow get you to the front of the line?

Think of the IRS systems like different departments in a large company. The WMR tool is like the receptionist who knows you've arrived for your appointment, while the transcript system is like the accounting department that hasn't received your paperwork yet. The information has to travel between departments, and that journey takes time. Given the volume of returns being processed right now (like rush hour traffic), delays are expected. I'd recommend waiting until at least 21 days have passed from your filing date before getting concerned. If your transcript doesn't update by then, it might be like a package stuck in transit that needs attention.

But shouldn't their systems be better integrated by now? It's 2024! How long does it typically take for a transcript to update after WMR shows received?

This happened to me last year too! I filed on February 2nd and my transcript didn't update until February 25th. I was checking every single day and driving myself crazy. What helped me was setting a calendar reminder for the 21-day mark and forcing myself not to check until then. When I finally did check on day 21, everything had updated and my refund was scheduled for the following week. Sometimes the best approach is just giving the system time to work.

Don't worry yet. This is normal. WMR updates first. Transcripts take longer. The code 152 just means your return is processing. Keep checking every few days. If nothing changes after 21 days, then call IRS. Make sure you have all your info ready if you call. Don't waste money on tax services until you're sure there's a problem. Most returns resolve on their own.

I filed exactly 32 days ago and experienced the same thing. My WMR updated within 24 hours showing received, but my transcripts showed N/A for exactly 17 days. On day 18, my transcript suddenly appeared with a direct deposit date for 5 days later. My refund of $3,842 arrived exactly on that date. The IRS is processing approximately 1.8 million returns daily right now, so delays in system updates are normal. Your experience matches what many are seeing in the 2024 filing season.

The TC 152 on WMR is actually a Transaction Code indicating normal processing. Your return is likely in the Return Processing Pipeline (RPP) but hasn't yet reached the Transcript Database Integration (TDI) phase. This is a normal sequence during peak filing season when the IRS is processing high volumes. Have you verified that your e-file was accepted with a formal acknowledgment code? That's the most critical confirmation at this stage.

Maybe try checking your Account transcript instead of your Return transcript? Sometimes the Account transcript will update first and show that your return was received, even when the Return transcript still says N/A. It might be worth a look, if you haven't tried that already. I think a lot of us get anxious during tax season, especially when we're counting on that refund.
