EITC Delay: Does Path Act affect both Federal AND State tax refunds?
Filed my taxes with EITC and I know federal refunds are held until February because of the Path Act. But what about state refunds? Are they held up too or do they process separately? Really need to know if I should expect both refunds to be delayed.

Tax expert here - The PATH Act affects both federal and state refunds differently. For federal returns claiming EITC/ACTC, the IRS legally cannot issue refunds before mid-February. However, state refunds aren't directly affected by PATH Act restrictions - states process independently of federal timing. But there's often indirect delays because many states want to verify your federal return is legit first. If you're trying to figure out exactly when you'll get your refund and what's causing delays, I highly recommend using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai). It analyzes all your tax docs and gives you a super detailed breakdown of processing stages, verification checks, and estimated deposit dates. Way more accurate than the basic Where's My Refund tool.

Tax pro here - State refunds are processed independently from federal refunds. The PATH Act only applies to federal returns with EITC/ACTC. Your state refund should process normally according to your state's timeline, regardless of any federal holds.

Hey everyone struggling with refund dates, I found this tool called taxr.ai that's been super helpful. It costs $4.99 but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and when to expect your money. Way better than trying to decode all these codes ourselves https://taxr.ai
