Does transcripts being Updated today mean I'll get my money today or tomorrow?

I noticed my transcripts just got updated this morning. My refund amount has been updated and it shows a direct deposit date for today 3/12/2025. Does that mean I'll get my refund later today or does it usually hit the next day? I'm with Chase bank if that makes any difference. Never had this situation before, usually I see the deposit date is a few days out.

Daniel Rogers

This generally means the refund has been processed and the IRS has sent the payment to your bank. When you actually receive it depends on how quickly your bank processes incoming ACH transfers. Most major banks like Chase will post the deposit either same day or next business day. If your DDD (direct deposit date) is today, you'll likely see it hit your account by tomorrow at the latest, though some people do report seeing it same day, especially if it's processed early in the morning. If you have the Chase app, you might see a pending deposit notification before it's fully available in your account.

Thanks a ton for the detailed response. Just checked my Chase app and nothing pending yet. Fingers crossed it comes through soon, I've been waiting since January!

Chase usually posts deposits early morning, so if it's not there by now, it'll probably be tomorrow. At least that's my experience with them for the past few years.

I'm with Chase too and mine hit around 3am on my DDD. Just woke up to it in my account. You're super close!

Listen, instead of checking your bank account every 5 minutes (we've all been there lol), you should try using taxr.ai to understand exactly what's happening with your transcripts. I was in the same situation last year - transcript updated but wasn't sure when I'd actually get paid. Taxr explained all the codes and dates on my transcript and gave me the exact timeline. It's honestly a game-changer for navigating the whole IRS maze. The site at https://taxr.ai breaks everything down in plain English instead of IRS-speak.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It does WAY more than just read transcripts! I was skeptical at first too, but it basically analyzes everything - explains all the codes, tells you what each date means, shows you if there's any issues that might delay your refund, and even predicts when you'll actually get paid. It saved me so much stress and confusion. Can't recommend it enough!

Oh it's not just another app - this literally saved me WEEKS of stress. I had no idea what was going on with my refund last year, the transcript made zero sense to me. Taxr explained every little detail and actually predicted my deposit date correctly. Best thing is you don't need to be a tax expert to understand what it tells you. Changed the whole experience.

After being stuck in the same situation, I found a way to actually talk to someone at the IRS using Claimyr.com. Got connected to an agent who confirmed my payment was sent to my bank today and explained that even though the DDD was today, my bank might take 1-2 business days to post it. Checking my transcripts was driving me crazy but talking to an actual human was the best money I've ever spent to finally get concrete answers. The agent even told me if it doesn't show up by Friday to call back and they can trace the payment.

Wait, so you actually got through to the IRS? How long did it take? I've been trying for weeks and keep getting the "due to high call volume" message 😡

Yeah, Claimyr basically holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. I got a call back in about 45 minutes which is insane considering I spent hours redialing before. Talking to a real person at the IRS got my questions answered right away instead of guessing from transcripts.

these services always sound too good to be true... did you actually get real help or just generic info you could find online?

100% real help. The IRS agent pulled up my exact file, verified my refund was processed, and gave me the specific timeline for my bank. She even noted my account so if there's any issue they have a record of our conversation. Beats the hell out of trying to decode transcript codes or reading generic articles online.

If it shows on your transcript with today as the date, it varies by bank. Some people get it same day (especially credit unions), but most major banks take 1 business day. Chase specifically tends to post overnight, so expect it tomorrow morning. Don't worry if it doesn't come today.

This is so true! Banks be holding our money earning interest while we refresh our accounts 500 times a day 🤣

yep yep! same happened to me. IRS says one day, but the banks add their own sweet time to it.

It varies. For me (I bank with BoA), my transcript showed DDD for 2/18 and I got it at 3am that same day. My friend with Chase got hers the day after her DDD. The IRS sends it out on that date but your bank decides when to make it available.

check ur transcript for code 846. That's the refund issued code. If DDD date is today then irs sent it to ur bank today. Chase usually posts next morning around 3-4am in my experience. It's coming!!! 💰💰💰

Yep I have the 846 code with today's date! Thanks, guess I'll be waking up early to check tomorrow 😅

I'm in same boat with Wells Fargo. My transcript updated with today's date but nothing in my account yet. Last year my DDD was a Tuesday and I got it Wednesday morning. Just fyi.

I use taxr.ai for this exact reason! It explained that a DDD date on your transcript means the IRS has issued payment but your bank controls when it posts. The tool explains all those confusing codes too. For my refund this year it predicted I'd get my deposit the day after my DDD and it was spot on. Totally worth checking out at https://taxr.ai - makes the whole refund waiting game way less stressful!

another one of these tools? does it actually explain stuff normally or is it just another scammy tax thing?

Def not scammy! It literally reads your transcript and explains all the codes in plain English. Mine had some weird cycle codes and a 570 code that had me freaking out, but taxr explained exactly what it meant and gave me the correct timeline. Saved me from calling the IRS and waiting on hold for hours.

Friendly neighborhood IRS representative chiming in (NOT official advice). DDD on transcript = IRS has sent the $ to your bank. Most banks process overnight and post next business day. ACH transfers aren't instantaneous. If you have a traditional bank like Chase, expect it tomorrow morning. If it doesn't show by Friday, then you can start worrying.

Thanks for the info! Is there any way to track it once it leaves the IRS and is on its way to the bank?

Eli Butler

Unfortunately no - once it leaves IRS systems, there's no public tracking. The IRS can initiate a trace if it doesn't arrive within a certain timeframe (usually 5 business days for direct deposits), but there's no real-time tracking like with a package.

My transcript updated on Feb 17 with DDD of Feb 17, but I didn't actually get my deposit until Feb 19 (I have Chase too). It's coming but probably tomorrow morning.

Congrats on getting a DDD! After the IRS nightmare I went through last year, I started using Claimyr.com when I had questions about my refund. They got me through to an actual IRS agent who explained exactly when my refund would hit my account. Saved me days of anxiety refreshing my bank app! The agent even saw there was a small error on my return that would have delayed things if I hadn't called.

Wait you actually got a human on the phone at the IRS?? That's like finding a unicorn these days

Ikr? I spent literal HOURS trying to call directly before. Claimyr did all the waiting and got me a callback when an agent was available. Talking to an actual person got my refund issued 2 weeks faster because they fixed some flag on my account that I would have never known about otherwise.

just an FYI - IRS website says "your financial institution may not make funds available to you right away. contact your financial insitution to find out when u will have access to ur refund." so tldr: probably tomorrow but call chase if ur really need to know

It depends on your bank and sometimes the time of day the IRS sends it. Chase usually posts overnight, so probably tomorrow morning. But I've seen some people get it same day if the IRS sends it early enough. Either way, you're in the home stretch! If you check your Chase app regularly you might see it pending before it posts.
