Deposit Date for Today - Will It Hit Even Though PATH Act Hasn't Lifted?
Got a deposit date for today. Not sure if it'll actually happen. The PATH Act is still in effect, right? I filed with Earned Income Credit. My transcript shows the date. WMR shows approved. Anyone know if it'll actually deposit? Need this for quarterly taxes.

The PATH Act delay only applies to when the IRS PROCESSES returns with certain credits, not when they DEPOSIT them. It's like how a restaurant can't start cooking until 10am, but once your food is ready, they'll serve it regardless of time. If you have a deposit date on your transcript, that means your return has already been processed and approved, so the PATH Act restrictions no longer apply to you.

This is exactly right. The PATH Act is like a security checkpoint at the airport - once you're through it, you're free to board. I had the same confusion last year thinking my money was trapped in some holding pattern even after getting a deposit date. Money hit my account like clockwork on the date shown.

Is there any regulation that specifically states when banks must post IRS deposits? According to the Automated Clearing House (ACH) rules, financial institutions are required to make funds available by the settlement date indicated in the ACH file, which would be your deposit date. Some banks may post early, but they cannot post later than the official date.

I see this question a lot during tax season. Here's what you need to know about deposit dates and PATH Act: • The PATH Act delay period (usually until mid-February) is for PROCESSING returns with EITC/ACTC • Once your return is processed and a deposit date is assigned, the PATH restrictions no longer apply • Your transcript deposit date is reliable and based on the IRS's final determination • The date shown is when the IRS releases funds to your bank I recommend using https://taxr.ai to analyze your transcript - it would confirm your deposit date is firm and explain any codes you're seeing. It helped me understand that the 846 code with a date means funds are being released regardless of PATH status.

I'd be careful about relying on third-party tools when dealing with something as important as tax refunds. While these services might provide some insights, there's always a risk they might not have the most up-to-date information. It's usually safer to go directly to the IRS resources or call them if you're really concerned about your deposit timing.

Has anyone used this tool with a similar situation? I had a deposit date last year that was delayed by 2 days even though my transcript showed it should have arrived. I'm wondering if this tool would have explained why that happened or if it just repeats what's already on the transcript?

Just checked my bank account! Money arrived exactly as scheduled on March 15th, 2024. The PATH Act didn't affect it at all once I had a deposit date. My timeline was: filed February 2nd, processed by February 28th, deposit date of March 15th. Everything happened right on schedule despite having the Earned Income Credit on my return.

Did you have any delays or verification requests before getting your deposit date? I'm in a similar situation with EITC but still waiting for my deposit date to appear. Wondering if I should expect additional delays or if once the processing starts it moves quickly?

I've been through this exact scenario many times with clients. Once you have a deposit date on your transcript, it's essentially guaranteed. I've seen thousands of returns over the years, and while processing times vary wildly, I've rarely seen the IRS miss a confirmed deposit date. The confusion happens because people mix up the processing hold (PATH Act) with the actual deposit timing.

If you already have a deposit date, you're PAST the PATH Act hold. The hold only affects when they PROCESS your return, not when they DEPOSIT your approved refund. But if you're still worried and want confirmation directly from the IRS, use Claimyr to get through to an agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). Much better than stressing or waiting on hold for hours. They'll confirm your deposit is coming today.

Anyone know if there's a diff between the DDD (direct deposit date) on transcripts vs what WMR shows? My WMR still shows processing but transcript has a date. Wondering if I should trust one over the other or if they sync up eventually?

I was in exactly your situation 18 days ago. Had a deposit date of February 26th, 2024 with $4,782 in EITC. Money hit my account at precisely 3:27am on the exact date shown on my transcript. The PATH Act only delayed my processing until February 15th, but once I had a deposit date, it was 100% reliable. Used the money to cover my $1,213 quarterly estimated tax payment that was due.
