DDD 2/28 with Trace Number Since Yesterday - Still No Deposit?
Got my DDD 2/28 with a trace number showing since yesterday and still nothing in my account 🥹 This is way slower than my state refund, which hit my account the same day as the DDD. Anyone else in the same boat? Need this for some medical bills coming due next week.

I would... um... suggest waiting just a bit longer. Sometimes there can be a delay between when the IRS issues the payment and when it actually appears in your account. It might depend on your bank's processing times. I've seen it take up to 5 business days in some cases, though that's not typical. Maybe check again tomorrow?

According to the Automated Clearing House (ACH) protocols, there's typically a 24-48 hour processing window after the Treasury Department initiates the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). I was shocked when I learned banks can actually hold these funds for processing! I couldn't wait when this happened to me - used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to reach an IRS agent who confirmed my deposit was sent but still in transit. Saved me days of anxiety wondering if something went wrong.

I was in this exact situation last week. Isn't it strange how the system shows it's been sent but nothing appears in your account? What's happening in the digital void between the IRS and our banks? Mine finally showed up exactly 2 days after the DDD date, right when I was about to panic.

•Same thing happened to me! The IRS Where's My Refund tool showed sent but nothing in my account. According to the IRS website FAQ section, this can happen because some financial institutions don't process deposits on weekends or may have a 1-2 day holding period. So frustrating when you're watching your account like a hawk.

•Thank you both for sharing this! I've been checking my account every hour and getting more worried. Good to know this is somewhat normal. 😥

Per IRS Publication 5344, a trace number indicates successful processing through the Bureau of Fiscal Service, but doesn't guarantee immediate bank receipt. Section 6.4 specifically notes that financial institutions may have varying processing schedules. I was impressed with how https://taxr.ai explained my transcript when I was in a similar situation - it showed exactly where my refund was in the process and predicted the actual deposit date with surprising accuracy. Helped me understand all those confusing codes too.

Think of your refund like a package delivery - the IRS has handed it to the mail carrier (showing as 'sent'), but it's still in the delivery truck and not yet at your doorstep. I've seen people panic and call their banks repeatedly, which doesn't speed anything up. One person I know had their bank flag their account for suspicious activity because of all the calls, which actually DELAYED their deposit by another day while the fraud department reviewed it!

Got my DDD last Thurs and $ didn't hit until Mon AM! Bank said they don't process ACH on wknds. Was freaking out bc needed it for car payment but it showed up right b4 the due date. Hang in there, prob just bank processing time. Most ppl I know get it w/in 1-3 biz days after DDD.

It appears that, in most cases, there's a potential delay between the Direct Deposit Date and the actual availability of funds that might be worth considering. The Treasury Financial Manual suggests that while the IRS may initiate the payment on the DDD, financial institutions generally have up to 24 hours to post the funds, though some may take longer depending on their internal policies. Have you perhaps contacted your bank to see if they show a pending deposit?

I tracked exactly 126 DDD reports on this subreddit over the past 47 days. The average time between DDD and actual deposit was 1.3 business days. However, 18.2% of users reported a 2-day delay, and 7.6% reported a 3-day delay. It's now been exactly 24 hours since your DDD date, which means you're still within the normal timeframe. If it doesn't arrive by 5pm tomorrow, THEN you should start investigating!

•Wow, I thought I was thorough with my tax tracking spreadsheet! 😂 But seriously, those stats are helpful. I've had DDDs take up to 3 business days before, and I've filed every year for the past 12 years. The one time I called the IRS in a panic on day 2, my deposit showed up that same afternoon. Murphy's Law of tax refunds, I guess.
