Cycle Code Changed: 05 for 5 years now suddenly 04 - What's going on?
Been getting cycle 05 on my transcripts for the past 5 years straight. This year surprisingly showed up as cycle 04. Anyone know if this is normal or if the cycles are randomly assigned each year? Starting to worry since its different from my usual pattern.

Cycle codes can definitely vary year to year. The cycle number just indicates which day of the week your return was processed. Cycle 05 means Thursday, while 04 is Wednesday. It's not something to worry about - the change won't affect your refund timing. What matters more is if you're seeing any codes like 570 or 971 on your account transcript.

•That would be Thursday April 18th. The 05 at the end tells you its Thursday.
