Cycle Code 20250705 with no WMR update - stuck after filing in February with CTC claim

I e-filed my return on February 12th and got acceptance notification the next day. It's been almost 2 months, and all I see in my transcript is Cycle Code 20250705 but absolutely nothing updates in Where's My Refund. I claimed Child Tax Credit for my two kids, so I know there's that PATH Act delay, but I thought that was supposed to end mid-March? Has anyone who claimed CTC or was affected by PATH actually received their refund yet? I filed through TurboTax with direct deposit to Credit Karma.

Tax professional here. The PATH Act does delay refunds for returns claiming certain credits like the Child Tax Credit until at least mid-March. However, we're past that window now. Cycle code 20250705 means your return was processed on the 5th day of the 7th week of 2025. The fact that you have a cycle code but no WMR update suggests your return is in processing, but may have been flagged for review. Some actions you can take: 1. Check your tax transcript for TC 570 (refund hold) or TC 971 (notice issued) 2. If you see these codes, a letter may be coming explaining any issues 3. If it's been more than 21 days since e-filing, you can try calling the IRS 4. Be patient - many refunds with credits are taking 45-60 days this year even after the PATH Act window ends

thanks for the detailed response! I looked and don't see any TC 570 or 971 codes on my transcript. does that mean it's still just in the normal processing queue?

Yes, likely still in normal processing. The IRS has been slower this year with these returns. If you don't see those codes, that's actually good news - suggests no specific issues identified yet.

I'm experiencing the exact same thing! Filed Feb 5, got acceptance Feb 6, have cycle code 20250705 and claimed CTC. No updates on WMR and no TC 570/971. This waiting is killing me 😫

I know right?? I was counting on this money for some car repairs. so frustrating!

0 coins

have u tried checking your account transcript instead of just the return transcript? sometimes theres more info there.

I'll try that! Didn't even think to look at the account transcript

I was in a similar situation and got so tired of guessing what was actually happening with my return. Spent hours trying to decipher my transcript and still had no idea what was going on. Then I found this tool called taxr.ai that actually explained my transcript in plain English and showed me exactly what was happening with my refund. Way more useful than trying to decode those cryptic IRS codes and dates myself. It showed me I was in manual review and even gave an estimated completion date. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - saved me so much time and stress.

0 coins

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

It basically analyzes all your transcript data and explains exactly what's happening in normal human language. Shows you your refund status, identifies any issues, tells you what each code means specifically for YOUR situation, and gives next steps. It spotted a review flag on mine that I totally missed and gave me a timeline. The peace of mind alone was worth it!

is this just another scam trying to get our personal info? 🤔

0 coins

Not at all! It just helps interpret your transcript data that you already downloaded from the IRS. I was skeptical too but seriously, it saved me weeks of stress. I've recommended it to like 5 friends already who were all stuck in refund limbo.

Just tried taxr.ai after seeing this and WOW what a difference. Immediately showed me my refund was in manual review due to income verification. No more guessing games! THANK YOU for sharing this!!!

I was stuck in the exact same boat - had the cycle code but WMR wouldn't update for weeks. Got so frustrated trying to reach the IRS. After trying for days and waiting on hold forever, I found claimyr.com which got me connected to an actual human at the IRS within 30 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was just sitting in review and released it while I was on the phone! Got my direct deposit 4 days later. Seriously the best money I ever spent to get this resolved instead of waiting indefinitely.

0 coins

wait how does this work? the IRS phone system is impossible to get through

0 coins

They basically call the IRS for you using their system and when they reach a human, they connect the call to your phone. Skips all the hold time and busy signals. I was about to give up when I tried it.

0 coins

this seems sus. does it actually work? every time i try to call i get the "we're too busy" message and it hangs up

0 coins

That's exactly what was happening to me! It 100% worked. Got through to the accounts department and they fixed my issue right away. Wish I'd found it weeks earlier instead of stressing.

0 coins

THANK YOU!!! I just used claimyr and got through to an agent who told me my return was stuck because they were verifying my 1099 income. She processed it while I was on the phone!!!

0 coins

Filed 1/30, claimed CTC for my toddler, got accepted immediately, same cycle code as you. My refund finally hit my account yesterday. No updates on WMR until literally the day before. Hang in there!

This gives me hope! Did you ever call the IRS or did it just suddenly show up?

0 coins

Never called, it just appeared! The status on WMR changed to approved on monday and the money was in my account tuesday morning. The system is weird this year.

0 coins

I called the IRS 15 times over 3 weeks and kept geting disconnected. The one time I got through the agent couldn't tell me anything more than "its processing". what a waste of time.

Your return is likely in ERS (Error Resolution System) which happens a lot with CTC claims. They manually verify eligibility. My cycle code was 20250703 and took exactly 45 days from acceptance to deposit. The system is especially backed up this year due to new tax law changes. Expect another 2-3 weeks based on my experience and what I'm seeing in other tax groups.

Daryl Bright

•

What's ERS? Is that bad? Will they send me a letter if there's a problem?

0 coins

ERS just means a human is reviewing your return. Not necessarily bad, just slower. If they find discrepancies they'll send a letter, but most returns clear ERS without issue, just takes time.

yep im in tax prep and we've seen TONS of returns with CTC claims going to ERS this year - way more than usual 😫

0 coins

Omg the IRS is so incompetent this year! I'm in the same situation but filed January 25th!! Still nothing. Why even have that stupid PATH act if they're going to hold our money for months anyway? 🤬

0 coins

FR! And they charge penalties when WE'RE late but when THEY are late processing our returns it's just "oh well, be patient" 🙄

0 coins

EXACTLY!! If we filed late we'd get fined but they can sit on our money for months with zero consequences. Make it make sense!

0 coins

check ur CC credit statement... some ppl who filed with TT and CK had fees taken out of refund but the payment to turbotax shows on their CK account before refund arrives. if u see that charge it means ur refund is coming soon

I had this EXACT same issue. Filed 2/8, accepted 2/9, cycle code 20250705, claimed CTC, no WMR updates. Nothing for 7 weeks. I finally got fed up and decided to get my transcript analyzed by taxr.ai and it showed my return was in manual review. Then used claimyr.com to actually speak with an IRS agent who confirmed this and processed my return on the spot. Got my DD 5 days later. Sometimes you have to be proactive when dealing with the IRS.

0 coins

This is the way. Waiting around for the IRS to do anything in 2025 is a recipe for frustration.

I think I'm going to try this approach, I'm tired of checking WMR every day and seeing no progress!

My cycle code was 20250704, claimed CTC for 3 kids, filed 2/1, accepted same day. Got my refund last Friday. Keep checking your transcripts every Thursday/Friday as that's when they usually update based on your cycle code. WMR is notoriously behind the actual status.

The IRS is a joke. They have ONE JOB and they still can't get it right. Meanwhile we all sit here waiting for OUR MONEY like peasants begging for scraps. 🤡

congress keeps cutting their funding and then everyone gets mad when service sucks lol. what did we expect?

I don't care about their funding problems. When I owe THEM money they expect it on time with interest! But when they owe US suddenly it's all excuses.

I work for a tax prep company and we're seeing this a lot. PATH Act technically lifted mid-March but theres a huge backlog because of the new tax law changes. Returns with CTC are taking 6-10 weeks on average this year. If your cycle code ends in 05 it means your account is updated on a weekly not daily cycle. Check your transcript every Friday morning.

Daryl Bright

•

Thank you for the insider perspective! I'll try checking Friday mornings instead of obsessively refreshing every day lol

•

No problem! And yeah, stop checking WMR, it's often weeks behind the real status. The transcript is your best source of truth.

0 coins

If u want a real laugh, my 2023 refund arrived TWO DAYS after I filed my 2024 return. The IRS is literally operating in a time warp. 😂

0 coins

I dunno why everyone here is so stressed lol. I've had the same cycle code for 6 weeks. Just forget about it and be pleasantly surprised when the money shows up. Checking WMR 10 times a day won't make the money come any faster!

Must be nice to not need your refund 🙄 Some of us are waiting on thousands of dollars we budgeted for.

fair point... i'm lucky it's not urgent for me. hope everyone gets their $ soon!

LPT: Always adjust your W-4 to have less withheld so you don't give the government an interest-free loan. Better to owe a small amount than wait months for a refund.

0 coins

This! I switched to owing $500-1000 each year and it's way less stressful than waiting for a refund.

This makes sense in theory but with kids and variable income it's hard to calculate perfectly. Plus the CTC helps a lot of families.

That's true, credits do complicate things. Just something to consider for next year!

I was getting nowhere with the IRS until I contacted my congressman's office. They have a taxpayer advocate who can inquire about your return. Got my refund 2 weeks after they stepped in.

0 coins

THIS!! Congressional inquiries work wonders with the IRS. They hate the political pressure.

The PATH Act is such a scam. It was supposed to prevent fraud but all it does is give the IRS an excuse to hold our money longer. My cycle code was 20250705 and I just got my refund yesterday after filing on Jan 29. Absolutely no communication from them during the entire process.

0 coins

For those stuck in this situation, I HIGHLY recommend using taxr.ai - it actually explains what's happening with your return in plain English instead of cryptic codes. Showed me my refund was in review for income verification and gave me a timeline. Super helpful! https://taxr.ai

Just tried this and it actually worked! Showed me my return was in manual review due to a discrepancy between my reported income and what my employer reported. Would have never figured that out on my own!

I've been through this 3 years in a row now. The trick is to call the IRS at 7:01am Eastern time on Tuesday or Wednesday (their least busy days) and use option 232 when prompted. Usually gets you to a human within 20-30 mins.

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Filed February 15th, accepted the next day, have cycle code 20250705, claimed CTC for my daughter, and WMR has been stuck on "processing" for weeks now. It's so frustrating seeing everyone with different cycle codes getting their refunds while we're still waiting. I've been checking my transcript every Friday like someone mentioned and still just see the same cycle code with no updates. Really hoping we see some movement soon - I was counting on this refund for some home repairs that I've had to put off. Thanks for posting this, at least now I know I'm not alone in this weird limbo!
