Code 570 on my transcript - PATH Act delay or actual issue?

Question? Looking on my transcript i have a 570 code, is that from being on the PATH Act hold or is their really a problem? I filed on February 12th and my transcript updated on March 18th with this code. Last year I had a similar situation but my refund came through without any issues on April 2nd. Just wondering if I need to take action or just wait it out?

Code 570 means 'additional account action pending' - it's not automatically PATH Act related. PATH delays only affect returns with EITC/ACTC credits. Your 570 could be something simple like a math verification or could indicate a more serious review. Do you see any other codes like 971 (notice issued) alongside it? That combo usually means they're sending you a letter explaining what's happening.

Thanks for explaining this so clearly! I've been staring at these transcript codes trying to figure out what they all mean. It's like the IRS deliberately makes this stuff confusing so we can't understand what's happening with our own money...

Think of code 570 like a yellow traffic light - it's not necessarily bad, just means the IRS is saying 'hold up a minute.' It's like when your bank puts a temporary hold on a deposit until they verify funds. The IRS is just running some verification checks before releasing your refund.

Really appreciate this explanation. I have an appointment with my tax preparer on April 15th to discuss my return, and now I'll have a better understanding of what might be happening with my transcript.

I'd be careful about waiting too long... A 570 code isn't always PATH Act related, and you might need to take action before things get worse. I was in a similar situation last year and wish I had used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript earlier. It explains exactly what your codes mean for YOUR specific situation and what steps to take. Time is of the essence with these IRS holds - the longer you wait, the further back in line you might get.

Is this service actually reliable? I've seen 37 different websites claiming they can decode IRS transcripts, but most just give generic information you can find on the IRS website for free.

Does taxr.ai actually connect with the IRS systems directly? Per Publication 1345, third parties need specific authorization to access taxpayer records, so I'm wondering how they're getting the information to analyze?

Thanks for sharing this resource. I've been trying to understand my transcript for weeks and the IRS explanations are so vague.

I used taxr.ai last week when I got a 570/971 combo and it told me exactly what was happening!!! My withholding was being verified because my W-2 didn't match what my employer reported. Saved me hours of panic and confusion!!

I've analyzed hundreds of transcripts with 570 codes. In your case, since you mentioned you had a similar situation last year with a successful outcome, it's likely just standard processing. The PATH Act does create a hold for returns with certain credits, specifically the Earned Income Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit. The system uses technical verification protocols to ensure compliance before releasing funds. Did you claim either of these credits on your return?

This is so helpful! Short sentences. Clear info. Thanks!

Fwiw the PATH Act only affects EITC/ACTC claims, not all credits. Some ppl think it affects EIC but not CTC which is wrong - it's both.

Have you tried calling the IRS directly to get an explanation? Wouldn't it be better to know exactly what's happening rather than guessing? I spent 3 days trying to get through their phone system before discovering Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com). They got me connected to an actual IRS agent in about 15 minutes who explained my 570 code was just routine verification. Worth every penny to stop the anxiety and get real answers, don't you think?

Did you claim any credits like the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit? Those would trigger the PATH Act delay. Back in 2022, I had a similar situation with a 570 code that appeared on March 15th, and my refund was eventually released on April 3rd without me taking any action.

I had the exact same experience last year! 570 code appeared mid-March, I panicked and called the IRS multiple times, only to have my refund automatically process in early April. Sometimes the system just needs to run its course.

Does anyone know if having multiple W-2s increases the chances of getting these verification holds? I've had a 570 code three years in a row and always have 3+ W-2s from different employers.

I'm so frustrated with how the IRS handles these codes! Last year I saw a 570 code and ignored it thinking it would resolve itself. Turns out they needed verification of my identity and I ended up waiting 9 MONTHS for my refund! Don't assume it's just PATH Act related - a 570 can mean dozens of different things and some require immediate action.

My transcript had a 570 code on March 15th and a 571 (resolved) code appeared exactly 14 days later. Compared to my friend who had to verify his identity, mine was much simpler - just a math verification. My refund hit my account 5 days after the 571 code appeared. This is way better than 2021 when my return was in limbo for 4 months due to a similar issue.

According to the IRS Transcript Reference Guide (which you can find on irs.gov), code 570 is officially described as "additional account action pending" - it's a temporary hold. The system may need to verify information on your return against information they've received from other sources, like your W-2 or 1099 forms. Have you checked if there's a 971 code as well?

I've been through this multiple times and here's what you need to know about code 570: • It's a temporary hold that can be triggered by many different things • If it's PATH Act related, you'll usually see TC 570 with a date of April 15, 2024 • If you claimed refundable credits (EITC/ACTC), the PATH Act prevents refunds before mid-February • A 570 followed by 971 usually means they're sending you a letter • Most 570 codes resolve within 2-3 weeks without any action required Most importantly, don't panic - about 70% of these resolve automatically.
