570 Code on Transcript - How Common Is This During PATH Processing?

I've got a 570 code on my transcript and I'm on PATH. I know what the code means (additional account action pending), but I'm trying to figure out how common this is. Anyone else with credits like EIC or CTC seeing 570 codes this year? Looking for a reality check on processing times with this code. Last year I had a straight path with no issues.

The 570 TC (Transaction Code) is extremely common during PATH processing, especially during cycles 05-12. Approximately 60-70% of PATH returns receive this code temporarily as part of verification protocols under IRC 6428. Most clear within 14-21 days without taxpayer intervention, pending verification completion.

I had the same situation with a 570 code on my transcript last month. Per IRM 21.5.6-1, this is a standard verification hold for returns claiming refundable credits. My experience matches the statistics - it cleared after 16 days without any action on my part. The system is designed to automatically process these holds once verification is complete.

I'm seeing this pattern quite frequently this tax season. Have you checked if you also have a 971 code accompanying the 570? That combination often indicates a simple verification rather than an actual issue. Wouldn't you agree that most of these clear up automatically without requiring amendments or calls to the IRS?

What about if there's no 971? Just the 570. Does that mean something different?

This is really helpful information! I've been worried about: ā€¢ Whether I need to call someone ā€¢ If I should submit documentation ā€¢ How long the delay might be Thanks for explaining the difference between these codes.

I'm not entirely sure, but is it possible that the 570 could be related to identity verification even without a notice? I've heard some people mention this possibility.

Wow, I had no idea the IRS transcript codes were so complex! I've been googling every code I see trying to understand what's happening. The IRS website explanations don't really tell you what it means for your specific situation.

Dealing w/ 570 codes can be super frustrating esp when you need your $$$. If you're tired of waiting and want answers, try Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). Used it last yr when I had the same code for 3 wks. Got thru to an IRS agent in ~30 mins instead of calling for days. Agent confirmed it was just in review queue and gave me timeline. Saved me tons of stress tbh.

You might want to act quickly if you don't see movement in the next 7-10 days. I had a 570 code that seemed routine, but it turned into a 120-day review because I didn't respond to a letter that got lost in the mail. The system sometimes requires documentation even when everything on your return is correct.

OMG this happened to me too! The letter went to my old address even though I updated everything. By the time I figured it out, I was already flagged for non-response.

Did you eventually get your refund? I had something similar in 2022 and it took almost 6 months to resolve.

The 570 situation this year is worse than last year but better than 2022. Back then, about 80% of PATH filers saw this code and many waited 8-12 weeks. Now it's more like 4-6 weeks for most people. Compare that to non-PATH returns where maybe 20% see this code and usually clear in 2 weeks.

As of March 15, 2024, the IRS reported they've processed approximately 67% of all returns filed since January 29th. The backlog is definitely improving compared to previous years.

This matches what I've seen in my family! My sister (no credits) got her refund in 10 days. Meanwhile I'm on week 5 with PATH and a 570 code. The difference in processing time is crazy.

Do returns with 570 codes always get released in batches? Or is it case by case?

I've helped several people navigate the 570 code situation. Here's what works best: 1. First, check if there's also a 971 code (notice issued) 2. If yes, wait for the notice before taking action 3. If no additional codes after 21 days, call the IRS 4. Request a transcript update if you speak with an agent 5. Most importantly, don't file an amended return while a 570 is active Most 570 codes clear automatically within 2-3 weekly cycles.

Is there any correlation between the cycle date on the 570 code and the expected resolution timeframe? My transcript shows cycle 20241405 on the 570 TC, which I believe indicates the 14th week of 2024.

Learned this the hard way - had a 570 code last year and ignored it thinking it would resolve itself. Turns out I had a missing Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit) and the IRS was waiting for me to submit it. Lost 2 months of waiting before figuring it out! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø Check your health insurance documentation if you had Marketplace coverage.
