Filed 1/24 with Cycle Code 0605 - 570 Code Appeared After PATH Hold

I e-filed on January 24, 2024 and received acceptance confirmation same day. My return contains EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) so it was on PATH hold for the standard two-week verification period. Transcript updated last week with TC 570 (Additional Account Action Pending) but no accompanying notice code or further updates. As a weekly 0605 cycle code filer, I'm trying to determine if this is simply part of the PATH verification process or if there's an actual issue requiring my attention. How can I differentiate between a standard processing hold versus an actual information request? My transcript doesn't indicate any correspondence being issued (no 971 code).

I've seen this exact situation before with PATH Act returns. Last year around this time, I had several clients with the same pattern - accepted in January, PATH hold, then a 570 code appeared without a 971. In most cases, it was just part of the extended verification process they do with refundable credits. The 570 by itself usually indicates internal processing rather than something they need from you. If they needed additional information, you'd typically see a 971 code (Notice Issued) accompanying the 570. The absence of the 971 is actually a good sign in my experience.

But isn't it unusual to get a 570 without any explanation? I always thought they had to tell you why they're holding your refund.

Per IRM 21.5.6.4.35.1, the TC 570 may be posted systemically without corresponding notice when related to verification procedures. The IRS is authorized under IRC Ā§6201(a)(4) to delay refunds containing certain credits for additional verification without issuing immediate correspondence.

I noticed something similar on February 12th when my transcript updated with a 570 code. It resolved itself on February 26th with an 846 code. Is there a specific timeframe the OP should expect between seeing the 570 and resolution?

I've dealt with 570 codes for years and your situation is classic PATH Act processing. Here's what you need to know: ā€¢ 570 without 971 = internal review, not a request for info ā€¢ Weekly cycle 0605 = updates typically happen Thursday night/Friday morning ā€¢ PATH Act returns get extra scrutiny even after the official PATH hold ends I started using https://taxr.ai last year to analyze my transcript when I got stuck in this exact situation. It explained all my codes and predicted my DDD accurately. The tool specifically identifies PATH Act processing patterns and can tell you if your 570 is routine or something to worry about.

I'm a bit skeptical about these transcript reading tools. My brother-in-law used one last year and it just told him what he could figure out himself from the IRS website. Did it actually tell you something you couldn't find elsewhere?

Wow, I didn't know there were tools specifically for reading tax transcripts! The IRS website is so confusing with all those codes. Might check this out.

Does the tool explain what will happen next after a 570 code? I'm in a similar situation and wondering if I should expect additional delays or if this is normal processing.

I noticed this exact pattern with my 2023 return that I filed on January 22nd this year. The 570 code appeared on February 15th after my PATH hold ended, and then on February 29th it resolved with an 846 code (refund issued). For weekly cycle filers like us (0605), the system updates transcripts on Thursday nights, so check your transcript every Friday morning for changes. In my case, it was exactly 14 days between the 570 appearing and the refund being approved.

Hey there! Ur situation is super common rn w/ EITC returns. The 570 w/o a 971 is usually just part of processing. But if u wanna know for sure, calling the IRS is ur best bet - tho good luck getting thru this time of yr šŸ˜© I was in the same boat last month and tried calling for 3 days straight. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected in like 25 mins. Agent confirmed it was just normal verification and nothing to worry about. Refund hit my acct 8 days later. Sometimes peace of mind is worth it!

Is it really worth paying for a service just to talk to the IRS? Won't they eventually process the return anyway? I'm in a similar situation and wondering if calling would actually speed things up?

It's like being stuck in traffic - you can either sit there wondering if there's an accident ahead or you can check the traffic app to know what's happening. I was in the same boat with a 570 code last month, and calling the IRS was like night and day. The agent could see notes on my account that weren't visible on my transcript and confirmed it was just random verification. My anxiety dropped from 100 to 0 instantly. Worth every penny not to spend weeks wondering and worrying!

Did the agent actually give you a timeframe for when your refund would be released after confirming it was just verification? I'm wondering if calling actually speeds up the process or just provides information.

The temporal efficiency of IRS processing isn't typically affected by inquiry calls, but the informational asymmetry between what's visible on public-facing transcripts versus what's available in the IRS internal systems makes agent contact valuable. Certain processing codes and verification flags are only visible to representatives.

OMG I'm so excited to see someone else with the 0605 cycle code! šŸ˜Š I had the EXACT same situation - filed 1/23, PATH hold, then 570 code appeared on 2/16. I was FREAKING OUT but then my transcript updated on 3/1 with an 846 code! The technical reason is that the 570 is often placed automatically on returns with refundable credits as part of their verification protocols. For 0605 cycle filers, the system processes updates on Thursday nights, so check your transcript every Friday morning. Mine took exactly 2 weekly cycles from 570 to 846.

Thank you for sharing this! It's really helpful to hear from someone who had the same cycle code and went through the exact same thing. Gives me hope!

I'm somewhat confused about the relationship between cycle codes and update patterns. Does having a 0605 cycle code mean you'll definitely see updates on Thursday/Friday, or is that just when the processing occurs behind the scenes?
