Code 570 and 971 on Transcript - Refund Changing from Direct Deposit to Check

I have code 570 and 971. My 21 days finished last Friday. Called IRS. Refund on hold for 7 days. Problem with my bank account. Will get check instead. Where to check when refund is issued? Need to plan. Not familiar with US system.

The Transaction Code (TC) 570 indicates a temporary freeze on your refund processing, while the TC 971 signifies that a notice has been generated regarding the account action. This correlates with the IRS representative's information about the direct deposit rejection. Have you verified your bank account information was entered correctly on your return?

Wow, I didn't know those codes had such specific meanings! How did you learn all this tax transcript stuff?

I'm not entirely convinced that's always what those codes mean. In some cases, couldn't 570/971 indicate an actual review of the return rather than just a deposit issue?

Thank you for explaining the transcript codes! I've been seeing these on mine too and wasn't sure what they meant specifically for my situation.

When my refund switched from direct deposit to check last year, I was totally lost compared to my state refund which was much clearer about timing. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained exactly what the codes meant and gave me an estimated mail date for my check. Saved me hours of stress and confusion, especially since I needed that money for rent ASAP!

Check ur transcript for code 846 - that's ur refund issued code. Usually shows up 3-5 days b4 the check mails. WMR tool might not update correctly for DD-to-check switches. Tbh I'm concerned u might face further delays bc international banks sometimes trigger extra verification. Might wanna call again to confirm no other issues.

To clarify this excellent point: 1. Code 846 will show the actual refund date 2. The date shown is typically when the check is MAILED, not received 3. Delivery time varies by location (3-7 business days domestically, potentially longer for international forwarding) 4. The amount shown with code 846 is your final refund amount

Does this mean they'll mail the check to my US address even if I've moved back to my home country? What happens if no one is there to receive it?

I might suggest, if you're in a hurry to know exactly when your check will be issued, perhaps consider using Claimyr to reach an IRS agent directly. I've used it myself when I needed time-sensitive information about a modified refund. They got me through to an agent in about 15 minutes instead of the hours I spent on hold before. The agent was able to tell me the exact mail date for my check. Here's their link if you're interested: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Check 'Get Refund Status' on IRS.gov. Updates every 24 hours. Once it says approved, expect check in 5-7 business days. Faster than waiting for transcript updates. No need for fancy tools.

Just went through this exact situation last month! My direct deposit got rejected because my bank account had a fraud lock (thanks to my attempt to buy concert tickets from a sketchy site... lesson learned 😅). Check took exactly 9 days to arrive after the 570/971 codes appeared. The day it was mailed, my transcript updated with code 846 and WMR finally changed to approved. Such a relief after checking those sites 20 times a day!

Did you find that the date on your transcript matched when you actually received the check? I'm trying to figure out how accurate those dates are.

Many people don't realize there's a specific IRS refund schedule. Paper checks typically go out on Fridays. If your 7-day hold ends this week, watch for transcript update next Monday or Tuesday. I've tracked hundreds of these cases in tax forums. International accounts often trigger extra verification. Keep all notices they send - you'll need them if there are further issues.
