Child Tax Credit 2024: Can non-custodial parents claim kids if they paid child support?
I heard there was a change that lets fathers claim their kids on taxes if they can prove they paid child support for the whole year. Is this true? I've been keeping up with my payments and have all my receipts. My ex usually claims them but someone told me the rules changed for 2024.

Tax professional here. This is NOT true. The ability to claim dependents still follows the same rules as before. The custodial parent (where the child lives more than half the year) has the right to claim the child unless they sign Form 8332 releasing their claim. Simply paying child support doesn't give you the right to claim the child on your taxes.
