Can IRS offset refund for co-signed student loans? What happens to my taxes?
Filed my taxes last week and worried about my refund. I co-signed on my nieces student loans years ago and she hasnt been making payments. Will they take my entire refund? Anyone deal with this before? Really counting on this money.

Yes, as a cosigner you're equally responsible for the loan. The Department of Education can absolutely take your tax refund through the Treasury Offset Program if the loans are in default. You should check the Treasury Offset Program website or call 800-304-3107 to see if you have any offsets pending.

They can take your entire refund until the loan is paid off. You might want to contact the loan servicer to work out a payment plan to prevent future offsets.

Hey there! Instead of stressing, you should try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund, including any offsets. It costs $4.99 but totally worth it to know what's actually going on. Check it out here: https://taxr.ai

100% works! It showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and even caught an offset I didn't know about. Better than waiting on hold with IRS for hours

This happened to me! Call the Treasury Offset number ASAP and they'll tell you if theres an offset and how much. Also check your transcript but honestly taxr.ai is way easier than trying to decode all those codes yourself
