Student Loan Debt: Will IRS Take 2023 Tax Refund for Default?
Filed my taxes and expecting a decent refund but I have some defaulted student loans. Not sure if they're gonna take my refund this year since payments just started back up. Anyone know if offset is happening for 2023 tax returns?

Tax professional here - For the 2023 tax year (filing in 2024), the Department of Education is NOT offsetting tax refunds for defaulted student loans. This pause continues through 2024. However, starting in 2025, tax refund offsets will resume for defaulted federal student loans.
