Can I claim my son as dependent if he made $1,521 and files his own return?
My son worked for 2 months and made $1521 plus got SSI. He lives at home and I provide most of his support. Can I still claim him as dependent if he files his own taxes? TurboTax says yes but want to make sure I won't get in trouble.

Tax pro here. Yes, you can claim him! The income test for dependents in 2024 is $4,700. Since he made less than that and you provide more than half his support, you're good to go. His SSI doesn't count toward this limit. He should still file his own return to get his withholding back.
