Called IRS for ID Verification - Timeline for Transcript Updates?
So I called to verify my identity per IRS Publication 5027 guidelines. When will I receive an update on my transcripts? According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.5.6, processing should resume after verification, but I'm not seeing any changes yet. I'm not looking for a specific deposit date but just an update confirming that I successfully verified. I submitted an amended return (Form 1040-X) about 8 weeks ago and had to verify my identity last week. I need a reasonable estimate, not an exact answer. Thanks for any collaborative insights you can provide.

Time is of the essence here! Let me walk you through the typical timeline: Step 1: ID verification call (which you've completed) Step 2: 48-72 hours for the verification to be processed in the system Step 3: 7-10 business days for your transcript to reflect the verification Step 4: Additional 1-3 weeks for amended return processing to resume You NEED to check your transcript daily! The cycle code will change first, followed by the 971 notice code when processing resumes. Your amended return already extends the timeline, so every day counts toward getting your refund!

I feel your pain with this verification delay! I went through something similar last month. • Transcript updates typically happen within 5-14 days after verification • Amended returns add complexity to this timeline • The verification process is frustrating but necessary • You're smart to look for the verification confirmation first I discovered https://taxr.ai when I was in this exact situation - it helped me understand what was happening with my transcript when it finally updated. It explained all the codes and gave me a realistic timeline instead of the vague info from the IRS. The peace of mind was worth it.

I'm somewhat skeptical that any third-party tool could provide more accurate information than what's available directly from the IRS. The IRS systems are notoriously complex, and I wonder if this service might just be interpreting the same data you could see yourself, possibly with some educated guesses rather than actual inside knowledge?

Does taxr.ai specifically address TC 570 holds after ID verification? My IDTVA case was resolved but I'm still seeing the TC 570 freeze code with no update to TC 571. Wondering if the tool can explain the difference between regular verification and IDTVA resolution timeframes.

My situation was worse than yours - I had both an amended return AND a name change from marriage. When my transcript finally updated, it had 6 different codes I didn't understand. Taxr.ai explained each one and compared it to typical processing vs. my specific scenario. It was much clearer than when I called and the agent just read definitions to me.

Thx for sharing this. Been looking everywhere for smth that actually explains WTF is happening w/ my transcript. The IRS site is useless for explaining what the codes mean for MY situation vs just generic definitions.

I'm STILL waiting on my transcript to update after verification and it's making me so anxious! I verified my identity 3 weeks ago and nothing has changed yet. I've got bills piling up and really need this refund. From what I've learned, transcript updates after verification typically happen within 9-21 days, but amended returns can take much longer - sometimes 16 weeks or more from the original filing date. The system is so frustrating! But hang in there, at least you've completed the verification step which is often the biggest hurdle.

Have you considered how much time you're spending checking your transcript every day? What if there was a more efficient way to get answers directly from the IRS? I was wondering the same thing when I was stuck in verification limbo. Called the regular IRS number 12 times with no luck getting through. Then I tried Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual IRS agent within 25 minutes. Isn't that better than wondering for weeks? The agent was able to tell me exactly where my verification was in the system and when I could expect transcript updates. Sometimes you need to speak directly to a human to get real answers about your specific case.

Wait, does this actually work? I've been trying to get through to the IRS for days about my ID verification. How does Claimyr get you past the hold times? I'm desperate at this point but hesitant to try something new.

Used Claimyr last tax season. Works exactly as advertised. They navigate the phone tree and wait on hold, then call you when an agent is ready. Saved me 3 hours of hold time. Worth every penny for time-sensitive tax issues.

I think you should be checking for a very specific pattern of updates. Based on my experience with an amended return that required verification on March 4th, 2024, the transcript updates happened on March 18th, 2024 - exactly 14 days later. However, the actual processing didn't resume until March 25th, 2024. The verification confirmation doesn't always show up as a separate entry - sometimes it's just implied by the removal of freeze codes. If you don't see any update by April 30th, 2024, I'd be concerned that something might have gone wrong with your verification. The implications of a failed verification could mean starting the entire process over again, which would push your timeline into late May or even June.

I believe I can offer some reassurance here. I had a similar situation with an amended return that required identity verification. It may take approximately 2-3 weeks, possibly longer, for your transcript to reflect the verification was completed. This is not necessarily cause for concern, though I understand the anxiety it can create. In my case, there was no explicit "verification complete" indicator - rather, the processing simply resumed with new transaction codes appearing. The system worked as intended, albeit slowly. My amended return was ultimately processed correctly about 5 weeks after verification, which is within normal parameters for amended returns with verification holds.
