Anyone else with TC 0505 and 'as of' date 5/13 not get the 846 yet?
Anyone else with transaction code 0505 and have an 'as of' date for 5/13 not get the 846 refund issued code yet? I feel like many people with dates after mine are all getting their refunds already 🥹 I double-checked my transcript for the fourth time today. My numbers all add up. Claimed standard deduction. No credits that would trigger extra review. Yet here I am, watching people who filed after me get their deposits while my transcript sits unchanged.

According to IRM 21.4.1.3.1.1, the TC 0505 (Refund Delayed) indicates your return has been selected for additional review, but doesn't necessarily mean an audit. The "as of" date is frequently misleading and is NOT a guaranteed processing completion date per IRS Publication 2043. Many of us with 5/13 dates are still waiting while later filers with simpler returns are processed through automated channels. The IRS doesn't strictly process in a first-in-first-out order - they have multiple processing streams running concurrently based on return complexity and available resources.

Thanks for breaking down the IRM reference! I've been trying to understand the relationship between TC 0505 and the cycle codes. So essentially the "as of" date is more of an internal checkpoint rather than a processing deadline?

This matches what I've seen across multiple filing seasons. I had a TC 0505 last year with a similar situation - "as of" date passed with no 846 code. My transcript finally updated 17 days after the "as of" date. The TC 0505 seems to function as a placeholder while they verify certain elements of your return. For those wondering, when my 846 finally appeared, the money was in my account 2 business days later.

I'm in the same boat with a 5/13 date. What worked for me last year was checking my account transcript instead of just the return transcript. Sometimes the account transcript will show pending adjustments that explain the delay. I'm concerned the IRS might be flagging more returns this year due to the changing tax credit landscape. Have you checked if your transcript shows any pending adjustment codes like 570 or 971? Those typically appear before the 846.

I had the exact same situation - 0505 code with a 5/13 date. Mine just updated yesterday with an 846 code dated for next Wednesday. The weird thing was my WMR tool never updated from the first bar until after the 846 appeared on my transcript. Did you file with any investment income or cryptocurrency transactions? That seemed to be what delayed mine based on what the IRS agent told me.

I was stuck with a 0505 code for almost 5 weeks. The IRS phone lines were impossible - tried for days and couldn't get through. Eventually used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was just in the verification queue and there were no issues flagged. Three days after that call, my transcript updated with the 846 code. Worth the money just to stop the anxiety of not knowing what was happening.

Have you checked the WMAR tool instead of just WMR? In my experience from the past three filing seasons, the Where's My Amended Return tool sometimes shows different information even if you didn't file an amended return. Last year my return was delayed with a similar code pattern, and WMAR showed a message about verification that the regular WMR tool didn't display. The 0505 code typically resolves within 21 days of the "as of" date, but I've seen it take up to 30 days in some cases.

Just got my refund yesterday after having the exact same situation! 0505 code with 5/13 date, and I was watching everyone else celebrate their deposits while I refreshed my transcript hourly like it was a social media feed 😂 My 846 code suddenly appeared on Tuesday night's update, and the money hit my account this morning. Hang in there - the system seems completely random sometimes, but it does eventually work.

I had a similar experience with my 2023 return. The 0505 code appeared, then nothing for about 3 weeks. My transcript updated overnight with no warning, and the deposit arrived 2 days later. The IRS seems to process returns in batches based on various factors rather than strictly by filing date. If your return has any investments or slightly complex elements, it often takes longer even without actual issues.

Same here. Got my 846 yesterday. Filed April 1. Had 0505 code. Waited 32 days total. System works. Just slow. Patience pays off.

Did either of you have to do anything special to get it moving? I'm worried because I really need this money for some medical bills coming due next week...
