Anyone Had a 570 Code on Transcript? How Long Until Refund?

Just checked my transcript this morning and saw a 570 code (Additional Account Action Pending). Last year I didn't have any issues and got my refund in 14 days flat. This year, I'm filing as head of household for the first time since my divorce was finalized in October. I triple-checked all my numbers before filing on Feb 18, claimed the correct dependents, and included all my W-2s. My refund is substantial this year and I need it for some home repairs. Has anyone dealt with this code before? How long did it take to resolve?

According to the IRS website, code 570 indicates they need to review something on your return before proceeding. It's fairly common, especially when there's a change in filing status like yours. The IRS.gov transcripts page says this is a temporary hold while they verify information. I've seen people report anywhere from 1-8 weeks for resolution, but most get resolved within 21 days. Try not to worry too much - this doesn't automatically mean there's a problem with your return.

Have you checked if there was also a 971 code on your transcript? That often follows a 570 and indicates they're sending you a notice. If you have both codes with the same date, it usually means they just need to verify something minor.

Thanks for explaining this. I got a 570 code on March 7th and was freaking out. Got my refund exactly 22 days later on March 29th without ever receiving any notice or having to contact the IRS. The waiting is the worst part!

I'm a tax preparer and see this frequently. The 570 is a temporary hold while they verify information. With your change to Head of Household status after a divorce, this is expected. In my experience, these holds typically resolve in 2-4 weeks without any action needed from you. If there's an actual issue, you'll receive a letter requesting specific information. Most of my clients with a 570 code this season received their refunds within 21-30 days of the code appearing.

Does the cycle date on the transcript matter? Mine shows 20241405 next to the 570 code. Is that when they'll review it or when it might be released? I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to estimate when this might resolve.

I had the exact same situation last year after my separation! 570 code appeared and I couldn't get through to the IRS for weeks. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out they just needed to verify my address change, and the agent released the hold while I was on the phone. Got my refund 8 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things moving, haha! The hold time without Claimyr was supposedly 3+ hours, so it saved my sanity.

I've heard of these services but always wondered if they're worth it. Did you have to pay much to use it? I've been trying to get through to the IRS for days about my 570 code but keep getting the "call volume too high" message.

Claimyr worked for me too. Used it last month. Worth every penny. Spoke to an agent right away. Fixed my issue on the spot. Better than wasting hours on hold or getting disconnected repeatedly. My 570 was from a simple address verification issue.

Did your transcript show any TC 971 notice issued codes alongside the 570? The combination of codes can tell you a lot about what's happening. A 570 followed by a 971 with the same date usually means they're sending a letter but the issue might resolve automatically. A 570 alone or with different date combinations could mean different things.

Be careful about counting on a specific timeframe. My sister had a 570 code after her divorce last year, similar to your situation. She expected it to resolve quickly based on what people told her online, but it ended up taking almost 9 weeks because they needed additional verification of her dependent eligibility. It's much worse to plan for a quick resolution and be disappointed than to prepare for a longer wait and be pleasantly surprised. I'd suggest not making any financial commitments based on this refund until it's actually in your account.

OMG 9 wks?! Did she have to send in docs or call them? My 570 just showed up yday & I need my refund ASAP for car repairs!!

I wonder if the delay was because of the dependent verification specifically? I'm in a similar situation with a 570 code showing up after changing to head of household, but I don't have dependents. Would that potentially make my case resolve faster than what your sister experienced?

I've tracked exactly 37 cases of 570 codes in my tax Facebook group this season. The average wait time was 24.3 days from code appearance to refund. The fastest was 7 days, the longest was 63 days. Most people (29 out of 37) received their refunds without having to contact the IRS at all. Those who filed with major life changes like divorce or address changes seemed to take about 5-7 days longer on average. I'm impressed by how much data everyone has shared here - it matches what we've been seeing in our group.

I had a 570 code last year and it was like watching paint dry waiting for it to resolve. It's like the IRS puts your money in a vault and then loses the combination! Mine took exactly 6 weeks to fix, and it turned out they just needed to verify my address because I had moved. The frustrating part was that I couldn't make a payment on my new HVAC system until the refund came through, which meant additional fees. If you're counting on this money for those home repairs, you might want to look into alternatives just in case.

According to IRM 21.5.6.4.35.1, the IRS is supposed to resolve 570 holds within 30 days when they're related to address verification. Did they provide any explanation for why yours took 6 weeks? I'm wondering if there's a regulatory requirement they have to meet or if it's just a general guideline.

Here's what the 570 code typically means and what to expect: • It's an administrative hold while the IRS reviews something on your return • Common with filing status changes (like your new Head of Household status) • Usually resolves without taxpayer intervention in 2-4 weeks • May be accompanied by a 971 code indicating a notice is being sent • If a notice is sent, it will explain exactly what they need • The hold is often released automatically once verification is complete • Your cycle code on the transcript can give clues about when it might update The fact that you're newly divorced with a changed filing status is almost certainly what triggered this review.

I went through this exact same situation two years ago when I changed from married filing jointly to head of household after my divorce. The 570 code appeared on my transcript about 10 days after I filed, and I was stressed because I needed the refund for moving expenses. Mine resolved in exactly 28 days without me having to do anything - no letters, no phone calls, nothing. The IRS was just verifying my new filing status and dependent information. One day I checked my transcript and there was a 571 code (which means the hold was released) and my refund was deposited 5 days later. Since you filed on Feb 18 and it's now March, you're probably looking at early to mid-April for resolution based on typical timelines. The divorce/filing status change seems to be one of the more routine reasons for these holds.

I'm going through the same thing right now! Filed on Feb 22nd as head of household for the first time after my divorce finalized in December. Got the 570 code on March 5th and have been checking my transcript obsessively ever since. It's reassuring to see so many people here who've been through this - I was starting to panic that something was wrong with my return. Based on what everyone's sharing, it sounds like 3-4 weeks is pretty typical for our situation. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, especially when you're counting on that money. Thanks for asking this question - all the responses have really helped ease my anxiety about it!

I'm in almost the exact same boat! Filed Feb 20th, divorced finalized in November, first time filing head of household. Got my 570 code on March 8th and have been refreshing my transcript like it's my job. It's such a relief to find this thread - I was convinced I'd made some terrible mistake on my return. The consistency in everyone's timelines is really reassuring. Sounds like we're both looking at early April based on what people are sharing here. The anticipation is killing me though - I keep telling myself to stop checking daily but then I do it anyway!

I'm dealing with a 570 code right now too after filing head of household for the first time. Filed on Feb 25th and the code appeared March 3rd. What's been helpful for me is understanding that the IRS has specific procedures they have to follow when there's a filing status change, especially involving dependents. According to IRS Publication 501, they need to verify head of household eligibility which includes confirming your qualifying person lived with you for more than half the year and that you paid more than half the household costs. Since you mentioned your divorce was finalized in October, they're probably just making sure all the custody and support arrangements align with your filing status. The good news is that this type of verification is usually straightforward and resolves automatically once they complete their review. I've been tracking mine and will update if anything changes, but based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like we're both on track for resolution in the next 2-3 weeks.

This is super helpful! I didn't realize the IRS had such specific verification procedures for head of household status. That makes me feel a lot better about my situation - sounds like it's really just standard protocol rather than them thinking I made an error. I'm curious, when you say you've been "tracking" yours, are you checking your transcript daily or is there some other way to monitor the progress? I've been obsessively checking mine every morning but wondering if there are other indicators to watch for.

I'm currently going through this exact same situation! Filed as head of household for the first time on February 14th after my divorce was finalized in September. Got the 570 code on March 2nd and it's been 7 days of checking my transcript multiple times a day. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful - it's reassuring to know this is completely normal for our situation. The consistency in everyone's timelines (2-4 weeks for filing status changes) gives me hope that we should see resolution soon. I've also learned not to panic if I don't see updates right away since most people seem to get their refunds without any action required on their part. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - this community is a lifesaver during tax season stress!

It sounds like this is completely routine for people in our situation - the IRS just needs to verify our new filing status and dependent information.
