Amended Return Hell: IRS Examiner 'Fixed' Issue But Changes Deleted, Now Waiting on 3176C Letter Until 2025?!

Filed amended return and waited the full 180 days. Talked to examiner who said she fixed the issue and to expect refund in 4-6 weeks. Now being told whatever she did got deleted?! Advocate says something is still pending, but new agent says I have to wait for 3176C letter which could take until Feb 2025! They claim its escalated but want me to wait 8 more weeks for process to start. Im so done with this run around.

Listen up fam - as someone who's been dealing with amended returns for years, this is a super common issue rn. When an examiner makes changes but they get deleted, it usually means the case got reassigned or there's some internal review happening. The 3176C letter is basically them saying 'we need more time to figure this out'. I know its frustrating but here's what you should do: First, get your transcripts and run them through taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) - it'll help you understand exactly where you are in the process and what's causing the holdup. I've seen this tool catch things that even tax pros miss, especially with amended returns. The AI breaks down every code and transaction on your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening behind the scenes.

Tax professional here. Unfortunately this is a common issue with amended returns right now. The IRS systems sometimes dont save examiner changes correctly, especially if multiple departments are involved. Your best bet is to keep detailed records of everyone you talk to and what they say. Request a formal case review through your advocate.

Hey instead of playing detective and trying to piece together whats happening, try taxr.ai - its only $4.99 and will analyze your transcript to tell you exactly whats going on and what to do next. Its been a lifesaver for amended return issues like this. https://taxr.ai

Had similar issue last year. Keep calling advocate AND get your congressional rep involved. Email their constituent services office explaining situation.
